Full Version: Serious Problem - Xbox Won't Turn On (not A Frag)

Today I decided to flash my Aladdin Advance in Evox (stupid idea). Evox froze about a third of the way into flashing the chip. However, I wasn't too worried about loosing the chip (as it never worked properly in the first place), I was going to remove it anyway and do a TSOP (the Bond gamesave already installed and the required soldering done).
I decided to remove the chip this evening - I did. I then put my xbox back where it belongs and turned it on to check to see if it was still working. When it turned on, it worked as normal (unchipped). I browsed through the MS dashboard for a few minutes - mainly looking at the Memory screen (gamesaves).
Then suddenly my Xbox froze - I then turned it off. However there was one small problem - It would not turn on again. All I could get out of my xbox when I pressed the power button was a feeble set of bleeps (no video or sound on the TV or even a FRAG error - the light didnt even turn on). It went Bleep...Bleep...Bleep (the third bleep trailing away into nothing). If I held the button down it beeped continuously like an alarm clock (bleep-bleep...bleep-bleep). Since the box can bleep I guess that rules out PSU faileir - or does it?
My Xbox is a version 1.1 and the Hdd is a seagate.

I would be grateful if anyone has any ideas on what the problem could be - and, if it is a problem with the motherboard, where it could be. I REALLY need help with this, especially with Halo 2 on the way unsure.gif

Aside from checking your soldering for any signs of splashes, shorts, etc, you could put a chip back in and try booting it. I'm wondering if somehow the original bios got corrupted. Maybe look through all the tutorials and see if you can possibly reflash the original bios back in and start over. I'm not sure if the xbox MB uses POST codes similar to a standard pc's, maybe see if the POST codes match up in anyway.

Unfortunatly I threw the chip away - and its also in several tiny pieces. Yes, bios corruption is what someone said on the x(dash)b(dash)o(dash)x.net site said but Im not sure why it would corrupt. I wasnt flashing it or anything. If you want any pictures of any parts of my xbox dont hesitate to ask. smile.gif

If you had already soldered it to accept a tsop flash, the bios could have been written to when rebooting.

Hmm. Not sure how that works. I'll accept it if it is. But it didnt have a chance to be written too (I think). Because one moment I was on the dashboard and then it crashed. When i turned it on nothing happened - so it coulodnt have happened then. And I thought that if it was a bios problem that at least the light would turn on?

This is getting more confusing...Is it possible that the xbox can beep with a broken PSU? Because I have looked at some proplems through google with the PSU and my problem seams slightly similar.

I had a box do something similar....tried to power on brief green flash....some saaaad beep code attempt then power off. Actually it was a little funny because it wasn't mine tongue.gif. Anyway I found that this person had mashed DO and the trace was broken. I re-traced it and it started fine after that.

Thanks...I spose my xbox did take some pretty...intense, soldering around the d0...I'll look into it

I did look at it though...It looked fine. But this time I use a magnifying glass smile.gif

OK...all of the tracks are intact as far as I can tell. I looked at them through a very powerful magnifying glass and found that although they were covered with a small ammount of melted plastic they were intact underneath. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated unsure.gif

IT WORKS IT WORKS.

To be honest I'm not exactly sure what the problem was. It may have been the D0 but it might also have been some solder fragments in the LPC...well anyway...thanks for all of your help - im sorry i cant say exactly what it was but this is definatly the most helpful and friendly Xbox modding board. Thanks for your help guys...Case Closed beerchug.gif
