Im new, not to forums tho... i participate in 5 and own 1. I seen a modded xbox and i just had to mod mine. so i put some ideas together to come up with this plan... (its made in paint so it looks wierd)



at the bottem left of the 'X' is a semi circle of glass so you can see half the disc (its suposed to look like halo in there )

the center jewel is lit up by 8 green leds that surround it

get the 12 pc. (w/ controller skins) diamond plate skin from skinsane.com and slap that on

above the controller ports is a number (1,2,3,4), replace those with green LEDs that light up when a controller is plugged in, or if i get some wireless controllers, when the controller is on...(in the pic it says that 1st control is plugged in, even tho its not )

so hows that sound/look? please tell me some more ideas

how would i go about doing the controler number mod to were it only lights up when the controler is on

I saw someone on here with an orange a black box do it. You're going to need to dremel out the numbers above the ports but I'm not sure how to go about getting LED's there? Maybe 4 inch cathodes?

EDIT: Er...actually I didn't read you're whole question. I'm not sure how to get it to wher it's only on when a controller is plugged in. Forget everything I said and I guess all I can say is try to search.

thanks for the encouragement, ive only got one negative reaction so i will definatly go through with this. of course the window is misplaced cuz i made the layout in MS paint (my dad kiked me outta his house and thats where my photoshop is so...) ive made a site full of tutorial links, the plan, and when i start; a worklog, at my modding site. it might be a while until i start as i have no $. But i will sell my N64 and the money from that will go to the modding.

I love the halo disk in that picture...lol How long did it take you do to that?

why do a skin? might as well paint it if ur doing all the other hard work. skins just dont look the same as a fulyl painted box, its really not as hard to paint as some people make it seem.

i dont want chrome, i want DIAMOND PLATE!!! you know how hard it would be to paint a diamond plate pattern? and it would just look like crap if i used real diamond plate. so when i see this skin, i see it glow and hear heavenly music

I knew some one would say something about using skins. Anyway, its a lot like the position I was in. I tried to paint my xbox chrome using the plasti-kote tutorial and turned out not nearly as good as the pics on the tut so I used chrome skin for about 2 hours and decided it also wasnt good enough, so I painted it any random color I could find.

A few simple mods you can add that I suggest is putting 3mm LEDs in the controller dongles so that when you plug them in, they turn on. Throw 2 3mm LEDs inside each controller port on both sides. They look a lot better than having just 1 in the middle to me. And I seen an xbox that actually had an 8 LED ring around the jewel with a 80mm cold cathod under it. It looks really good especially because the cold cathod was white and the LEDs were blue, it added a really cool effect. Also, his jewel wasnt polished, he finished off the job with a medium grit sandpaper so the light got caught inside the jewel instead of just passing through it.

Also an incredibally easy... and cheap mod would upgarde your fan. Get a clear one that has some LEDs around it.

its like giant stickers you put on you casing that has a pattern or colour or something, examples at skinsane

Skins are no more than glorified stickers, IMO... besides, it can't be that hard to find someone that is good with an airbrush and have a diamond plate paintjob airbrushed on...

don't skin your xbox, paint it.

k, im gonna sell my whole n64 pack thingamajig for $150 (CAN, yes, i am canadian...dont be racist) and $80/$70 goes to two cosmo wireless controllers at this site and sell my current controllers for 60$(both) for more moddin money cuz all the rest is for the modding

i figured out that the modding will be delayed until after x-mas as i have to go x-mas shopping but i usually get lots of $ on x-mas so i might get more money... i will make an official worklog thread here after x-mas when i start
