Where exactly is it on your xbox hdd? Give me an exact path.. I'll load up xboxhdm, doublecheck what needs to be mounted and give you the commands to issue from the linux prompt..
Edit: Does you dash boot? You might as well fix that while you are in xboxhdm.. Then you could ftp it..

That would've been my suggestion, since you have access to the hd, thru xboxhdm, why not fix the softmod, and boot the xbox into a dashboard that supports ftp, and then grab the eeporm.bin from there?

the path is : c:\backup\eeprom.bin and i cant load my dash because my xbox gets error 5 before even reading a game or loading evox dash, because my hd is unlocked. i need eeprom.bin so i can lock my xboxHD in order to load evox dash or a the gamesave (right?).

Ok, at the linux prompt do this:
insert floppy, and hook hdd up as Primary master
At the prompt where you type xbrowser, type these cmds instead.
mkdir /mnt/c
mkdir /mnt/floppy
mount -t fatx /dev/hda51 /mnt/c
mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
cp /mnt/c/backup/eeprom.bin /mnt/floppy
That should do it, although I feel like I'm forgetting something.. Remember linux is 100% case sensitive..
Also, I believe you can tell lockhd to lock your hdd with the eeprom in that location..

i just thought of something, could the directory actually be primaster/c:/backup/eeprom.bin ????? where would i type these commands??? would i have a floppy in the drive??? btw, thanx for ur help

You said you made it into xbrowser, instead of typing xbrowser enter my commands.. I think your dir may be /mnt/c/Backup/ but I may be wrong.. Have a floppy in the drive unless you plan on saving the file on the Aether..

Nov 8 2004, 04:38 AM
You might as well copy it to a floppy.. It won't screw anything up even if I made a mistake.. Primary master is what your pc hdd is attached to.. Unplug it and use that connector so obviously your idea won't hurt anything.. As for the lockhd command, I don't even know it off hand..
BTW, don't do anything else with xboxhdm after entering my commands until you reboot.. What I did may interfere with other options that you don't need right now anyways.. After reboot its all normal again..

Yes, it was connected to primary master.. Basically if you plug it in wrong it won't work, it won't hurt anything..

did you mkdir the directory? No offence intended if this goes without saying, but those commands need to be entered in order and exactly as I typed them.. close doesn't count in linux..

k, i tried it again and got no error messages or replies. after i was done typing in the commands i restarted my computer (i guess i made a typo the first time). but the floppy disk still doesn't have eeprom.bin on it. is there anything that u were forgetting or something??? i noticed that the floppy wasn't empty when i showd the hidden files. would that distrupt anything??

Nov 8 2004, 05:34 AM
You ls'ed the floppy disk? (Don't explain if this doesn't make sense to you)... It shouldn't matter if anything else is on it, as long as there is 256 bytes free it guarantees that the floppy is formatted.. No output is good.. when you mounted the fd0 did the light on the floppy come on?

well, I'm no linux expert, but doesn't xboxhdm require the Xbox HDD to be on primary master?
If you wanted to copy from Xbox HDD to PC HDD, hook the PC HDD up to primary slave and see if primary slave is mounted in xbrowser.
Or just copy it to a floppy as suggested, it would probably be easier.

Nov 8 2004, 05:55 AM
ok, i deleted the hidden files off the floppy and tried again. the last command took a little longer this time. now when i try to go to the floppy it says it needs to be formatted, and asks if i want to format it. should i??? what does ls'ed the floppy mean???
k. i went ahead and tried to format the floppy. i just hit yes and then yes, i didnt change any of the options. then a message came up saying that windows was unable to complete the format.
triggernum5
Nov 8 2004, 06:00 AM
that sounds like you're on the right track.. ls == dir in linux if that makes sense.. As for formatting the floppy, go for it if you don't need anything from the disk..

You know you can point lockhd to different directory to automattically lock the hd correct?
lockhd -a 'Looks in the EEPROM dir
lockhd -f /mnt/hda/folderwhereeepromis/eerpom.bin
hda is only if your xboxhd is on the primary master.
MinimumEfrt
Nov 8 2004, 06:11 PM
ok, so to lock my hdd i would type in the command:
lockhd -f /mnt/hda/c/backup/eeprom.bin
where would i type this command????
i dont want to try this command untill im sure it will work, because in the readme it says not to fool around with locking tools unless you know what you're doing.
i am still confused what the primary master is. because xbrowser works with more than one jack, and i cant decide which one is the primary master. how do i find out what is the primary master????
oh yea, i tried to format the floppy again, and this time it worked.. but i still cant get eeprom.bin on it, it just stays empty. the light on the floppy drive turned on when it typed in the mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy command and the last cp command. but still no eeprom.bin!!
should i try a different floppy disk or something???
triggernum5
Nov 8 2004, 06:45 PM
Look on google, I'm sure you can find a pic explaining hdd cabling.. Seriously though, it the jack your pc hdd was plugged into I guarantee.. xboxhdm will work partially on any jack.. To issue this locking command it needs to be on Primary master (getting it wrong isn't dangerous, just a waste of time).. Boot into the mode of xboxhdm that supports locking, and issue that command that DaddyJ posted.
Seriously though, whichever way you choose to do it, your primary objective should be obtaining your eeprom.bin to a secure location! xbox hdd doesn't count as a secure location..
Edit: Another floppy might help, I dunno.. Seems like its working.. You should get an error if its not..
Edit2: Are you positive you have the proper case in your path.. Capital letters are important.. IIRC c:\Backup is capitalized by evox is it not?

i went into xbrowser and noticed some things. backup DOES have a lowercase b. but c is uppercase. where earlier i would always type a lowercase c and get no error messages. i had to xboxhdm cd's one with the ude package on it and one without. i lost one, but i dont know which one. the one with the ude package on it i put -allow lowercase in the make-iso-win.bat file because it told my to in the tutorial. but in xbrowser i could find a ude folder on the CD, so im guessing that im using the one without -allow lowercase on it. but why wouldn't i get any error messages when typing in the wrong commands??? also in xbrowser, i noticed that /CD had a parent directory with this in it:
/.mc
/CD
/PriMas
/bin
~cdrom
/dev
/etc
/floppy
/inet
/Idots
/lib
/lost+found
/mnt (has readme.txt in it for some reason)
/proc
/root
/sbin
/tag
/tmp
/usr
/var
im pretty sure i got them all but i was inturrupted while copying them down.

i booted xboxhdm thru option 3 (correct?) then i typed in:

but i got an error, but i forgot what it said, ill brb with what that error said.

i type cd dev and i got a dev prompt, then i typed ls, and in the list of things was hda, so i typed cd hda, but it said no such directory. when i type ls hda it just replies with "hda" and thats it. Is there no easier way to get files off your xbox????
triggernum5
Nov 10 2004, 05:55 AM
those aren't directories in /dev, they aren't even files as you know them.. They are devices.. Do you see hda50-hda55? Or any hd*50-hd*55? If those aren't on hda then your hdd is in the wrong slot.. If you don't see any hd*5* listings then your hdd was not detected.. Actually though, forget the /dev directory.. What you are interested in is the things in /mnt..
MinimumEfrt
Nov 10 2004, 11:43 PM
the only the in /mnt/ is readme.txt and i opend that in xbrowser and it said:
... don't go mounting your source partition(s) here. This directory is used by 'setup' to mount your target partition(s). If you need to mount something, make your own directory.
does this info mean anything to you??? i have no idea what it is talking about.
triggernum5
Nov 11 2004, 01:10 AM
Ok, go into your /dev and tell me whether you see hda or hda50-hda55, or if any other hd?50-hd?55 show up.. I'm pretty sure the floppy command, and the lockhd command failed because you didn't plug your hdd in where you pc hdd was.. Regarding the file, I know that was there, that is why I said that the commands I listed may interfere with other functions of xboxhdm..
If you only see hda-hdt (I think it goes to t) and none with 50-55 suffixes then your hdd is not being detected at all.

How to copy file from XBox hd to your floppy disk.
This tutorial uses eeprom.bin as an example and this implied that you ran the backup option and have the file call eeprom.bin in your XBox hd. However, if you didn't run the backup option, the eeprom.bin will not be there

.
In another word, you can't get something from nothing. First way:Hook up your xbox hd to PC primary ide cable.
Boot XBoxhdm and choose option 2
This assume that your eeprom.bin is in XBox C partition and under folder called "backup" => In PC term, it is C:\backup\eeprom.bin
| QUOTE |
mkdir /mnt/c mkdir /mnt/floppy mount -t fatx /dev/hda51 /mnt/c mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy cp /mnt/c/backup/eeprom.bin /mnt/floppy |
Thanks to triggernum5, that DOES work. People, please note that 0 in fd0 is a zero, not o.
Second way, aka Sissy way
1. Hook up your unlocked XBox hd to your computer using your PC primary ide channel/cable or in anyway that Xbrowser shows your XBox HD content.
2. Boot XBoxHDM CD
3. Choose option 2 <Enter> =><Enter> = Press the key inside the <>
4. Type "mkdir /mnt/floppy" <Enter> =>Just type the line inside " " and follow by pressing Enter key. There is a space between mkdir and /mnt/
5. Type "mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy" <Enter> =>There are 4 spaces total, one after mount, -t, vfat and fd0. Note that 0 in fd0 is a zero, not o.
6. Type "xbrowser" <Enter>
7. On the left window or the window that shows the content of your CD choose/highlight the "/..." <Enter>
8. Then choose "/mnt" <Enter> =>Use your arrow key to move the selector
9. Then choose "Floppy" <Enter>
10. Press Tab key to switch to the other side and find the place that you have your eeprom.bin backed up.
11. Select eeprom.bin or any file you want to copy over to your floppy
12. Press F5
13. Press Enter key =>If you do it right, the floppy light should lit up and copying etc...
14. Quit and do whatever you need to do with that eeprom.bin
I've confirmed that both ways will work. If there is any confusion, let me know so I can clear up the tutorial.
