I have a xecuter 2 mod chip and use Slayers autoinstaller.
I recently installed a 120gig hdd with no problems. I now want to upgrade to a 200 gig maxtor hdd that is in use in my PC. When I put it in the Xbox and boot I get a number 16 error and only half the screen shows on the telly?
Do I need to prepare the hdd in some way as its fresh out of my PC and still has some files ext on it. Or is this something to do with bios? The bios at the moment is 4077.
I thought this would be as easy as the 120 gig ....but NO!!! huh.gif ohmy.gif wink.gif

Yes you will need to prepare the hdd. It would be best to use some low level format utility and zero out the drive. Whether or not you do that, you will have to prepare the drive, i.e. file system/partitions, and Slayers is the easiest way to do this. After the hdd has been prepared you should be good to go.

Did you not set up your 120gig? Same process applies.

You will also want to make sure your bios has large hard drive support. You may want to reflash with a newer bios....4981 or 4983.

Did you have a Slayer (or similar) cd in the drive? You shouldn't need to do anything special beyond that.. Gotta admit, thats an odd error to get in this situation but I've seen stranger..

I had slayers autoinstall cd in the drive and on booting I could only see half the screen and the number 16 error.
When I put the 120 gig drive in it was brand new and I simply selected set up large hdd from the same Slayers cd?
Only differences was the 120 gig drive was Brand new/unformatted and was a smaller drive?

hmmm. should have booted from the dvd before it accessed the hdd.

Check your jumper settings. Are you using a Slayer disk that has been burner appropriately and to the correct compatible media?
triggernum5
Yea, Slayers doesn't care whats on the hdd I'm almost positive.. It wipes it and starts fresh with a new partition table..
hagarthefish
It was booting to the Slayer screen, just not correctly?
hagarthefish
The Slayers disk works correctly with the other hdd, so it must be burnt correctly .

I have heard of ppl having incompatiblity problems with hdds on rare occasions.. 2 things you can try are fdisk to wipe the partition table and start fresh (who knows).. Or switching the jumper master/cable select (again, who knows)..

I will try these things and let you know how I get on. Many thanks for all your help and to hockeyguy also. beerchug.gif beerchug.gif
