I have done a hard disk prepare on a hard drive to use in the xbox but I've decided not to use it now. I want to put it back into the pc but it appears to have locked. How do I unlock it? There can't be serial number on there cos its not an original xbox disk so it can't be locked to my xbox motherboard.
Please help

There's a tutorial on XBox-Scene for doing just that. Check it out. Haven't done it myself so I can't give you any tips.

Actually what an arse I am. This all came about because I buggered up the xbox a while ago. I tried putting a new drive in and couldn't. It turned out that I didn't have a chip that supported swapping the hard drives so I took it somewhere to have it sorted with a new chip to fix the problem. I didn't realise until just now but the hard drive I put in the xbox was the pc hard drive and the hard drive I have been trying to put in the pc is the original xbox hard drive. What a bummer. There is no way of getting the password for it now is there?

Hmm, I think there's a util for that...hate to say it again, but check the tutorials for that one.

Can't ConfigMagic do that?

ConfigMagic does it in 1 step; takes something like 20 seconds.
*edit* Didn't catch the ? right. I THINK ConfigMagic will get you the password for the HD. So far I've only used the util to lock my hard drive.

Actually could someone email me with help to do with configmagic? Also, do you have to put the drive back in the xbox to unlock it or can you do it through the pc?

You have to do it in the xbox with configmagic. It's very simple to use, just follow the onscreen instructions.

if you are trying to say it locks itself on reboot, then no, it doesn't lock on reboot
