can i unlock a hdd if i dont have the original xbox that it came out of, is there anyway maybe i can boot it as a slave in a computer and format it or something.

No. If you don't have the unlock key, a dump of the eeprom, or the original xbox itself, that hard drive just became a paperweight (unless you send it in to one of those data forensics companies who will unlock it, but thats probably more expensive than the hard drive)
