i read somewhere that you could use a usb thumb drive as a memory card,
i have made my own xbox-usb conversions (working great), but cant remember how to turn thumb drive into memory card format

just plug it in the usb slot and go in the MS dash. go in the memory menu. if it's compatible with the xbox, the dash will ask you if you want to format it.

does the MS mem card need to be formatted before i attempt the mech assualy exploit on a 1.0 box? im guessing no.....just wanna be sure
