is it harder to track on irc or what? and what's the difference besides that it's transferred through ftp? if this is too piratey than please throw into the garbage, but i was just curious.

xbins is providing open source stuff... bioses that allow you to create personal backups and play homebrew games and apps.
"other" places such as links to games and such obviously are illegal and compromise the purpose and intent of this forum.
If you are talking about other places to get the same types of files you would get from xbins... then xbins is by far the safest place to get things. You are much less likely to get corrupt or virus laden files from xbins than you would through popular IRC channels.

There is a big difference in mentioning an irc channel and posting a link to a site or torrent that contains illegal software. Ultimately its a decision by the site operators. They want to keep this place running with the least amount of legal trouble.
