While I used and loved both Qwix and XIso Xfer their inablity to FTP an ISO under Windows XP SP2 has made me search for an alternative program. This was of course after having no success with all of the fixes people have posted, and I don't consider not installing SP2 a fix.

While looking around the usual places I came across a program called C-XBox Tool 2. The newest version has boost mode which has given me the same speeds I used to get with Qwix when it was working.

The only two features it is missing is the ablity to patch and titles the default.xbe during the ftp process. You can currently ftp the xbe off the Xbox after the transfer is complete and then patch and retitle is before reuploading it to the Xbox. And the Manage Titles abilty that Qwix has is also not present.

I will not post a link for download because the archive contains MXM xbes which I believe may be considered illlegal, but just look in the usual places or your favorite web search engine and I'm sure you'll find it.

So if your having problems with Qwix give C-XBox Tool 2 a try. If you like it email the author the missing features as suggestions and see if they get added in a new version.

LOL heres another fix you may not like, ditch windows. My network hasnt been more stable since I wiped all windows OS off my PCs and switched to Linux.
SScorpio
Hmm.. except my network doesn't crash only Qwix doesn't want to work. And switching to Linux wouldn't work since Qwix won't run on it unless your using some type of Windows emulation.

But still I found a working alternative and just wanted others to know about it and if someone finds the application useful. Then the post wasn't a waste of my time.
Devenic
Well, looks like everyone has a decent alternative to Qwix. I wish I could reproduce the problem with SP2, but I use SP2 and have never seen the problem. I don't use the XP firewall; I use ZoneAlarm Pro. Oddly, none of our testers see this problem if they don't use the XP firewall in SP2, although some users have reported problems even after disabling the firewall.

Without the ability to reproduce it, I'm not gonna spend time speculating on the bug.
Xmaster99
same here (never seen this sp2 no qwix crap problem) i got sp2 and im using qwix happily ever after
Chinese_Guy
qwix never worked for me. I think it might be because i have a gigabit nic built in. And it's prob not a SP2 problem, since i have SP1. I refuse to get SP2 because i have upgraded many machines from SP1 to SP2, and they either didn't come up at all, or slow... and i mean.. slooooooooooowwwwww....
Q[TXR]
Hi, I can inform you that Qwix worked perfectly for me until I installed SP2 and after that uploading isos just won't work. I can browse the disks and manage content on the xbox but I can't upload anything.
BigDog67202
Try opening ftp port 21 on your XP firewall. Or, open the firewall (Start -> Control Panel -> Security Center -> Firewall) and add the link to the Qwix executable on your computer underneath the Exceptions tab. That should allow Qwix to bypass the firewall altogether.

I've heard people bash WinXP for ages. It's a good, solid OS, as long as you keep it tuned up.

I've had the unfortunate need to replace two motherboards in the last three years, both due to bad capicitors. One directly, one indirectly.

Every time you replace a motherboard you need to do a repair install of WinXP. If you have a non-OEM copy of WinXP you can call MS to reactivate WinXP, no problems. If you have an OEM copy and your hardware hasn't changed, no problem.

To do a repair install of WinXP, first, make a bootable WinXP with SP2 slipstreamed in. Google it, you'll find out how to do it. Boot off of the CD. If you have any funky hardware that WinXP doesn't recognize, press F6 to specify hardware during install. You will eventually get to a screen that lets you choose between the Recovery Console _R_ or regular setup (I think it's enter for that). Do a regular setup. You will eventually get to a screen that tells you it has found an already installed OS and it asks if you want to Repair _R_. Select Repair, and it will erase all your hardware data and delete all the MS-supplied files but keep everything else intact. It will then merge the existing registry information, including user information, into the new install. Think of it as a spring cleaning.

I have done this every year or year and a half, and I'm on the same basic XP install that I loaded in February of 2002. Keep in mind I don't use my PC for a lot other than websurfing, email, managing the XBOX, etc., but I used to be an avid PC gamer. That changed once I got my XBOX and my 50" Sony HD set :)

endless ramblings...

Great info! I wonder if this would also help with adware/spyware that was already on the computer when somebody upgrades to SP2. For everyone - in case you didn't already know, installing XP SP2 is a good thing, and will help protect your computer, however any viruses/adware/spyware programs that were on your computer before updgrading to SP2 will still be present afterwards and will still behave as before. Previously, MS' recommendation in these situations was to remove SP2, remove the viruses/spyware/adware and then re-apply SP2. That process takes awhile to complete, longer than a repair.

I have also never had any issues with Qwix and SP2. When I ran into qwix not working was when I got my Athlon 64bit processor. Now it doesn't work at all. What is with that? Why would you make a program that only works with 32bit or lower. Can I test some updates for you, so I can start using qwix again? huh.gif
SniperKilla
yay.. this works great..

i even uninstalled SP2 last night and qwix still wouldent work... might be the onboard gigabit ethernet.. or the athlon 64.. but who cares.. i was afraid id have to use flashfxp till qwix was fixed wink.gif

some nice speeds there
RocafellaSqualie
laugh.gif LMAO laugh.gif ............SniperKilla..........before you get all excited about C-Box,you better edit your image........... if you don't know what i'm talking about, look at it closely............I notice 2 things in that pic
fraeone
I have this problem too, but I don't think it has anything to do with SP2. I tried it without SP2 and have the same problem. I'm more inclined to agree with sniperkilla, it's A64 or NForce3 related maybe.. I started having these problems when I got this new A64 motherboard.

What works for me:

Don't use AVA! Ironically enough, Qwix uploads just fine to UnleashX

Don't use Qwix! FlashFXP uploads just fine to AVA..

Qwix + Ava will hang at 0% of the upload.

I will also try C-Xbox too though, because I'm not sure that UnleashX supports boost mode.

Let me add another raised hand to the upgrade issues. I just got a A64 3500+ and a MSI NEO2 Nforce3 board last November and Quix hasn't worked since. Worked flawlessly for months on my old Athlon 2000+. I think we might have stumbled on where the problem might lie with Quix all of a sudden not working. How many others have a A64 and Nforce3 combo and can't get Quix to work?
2K4EVOVIII
Well i finally got some good speed. I tried FlashFXP and would only get around 3500kb/s with QWIX i would get nothing but errors and the xbox would lock up after the errors. Then i tried C-Xbox and i instantly got 9500kb/s and up to 10100kb/s. Its by far the fastest transfer i have been able to get. C-Xbox does lack allot of good features that QWIX has but maybe in a future revision that will all be fixed.

Thanks for the GREAT FIND!

Chris

I don't come to Xbox Scene too often, but I'm glad that this thread is still going and that it has been able to help a few people.

As the the Nforce3, A64 issue you could be onto something. I actually did an upgrade from a P3 to an A64 the weekend SP2 was originally released so I did a slipstream install of it.

I can't remember if I test Qwix with just SP1 on the hardware, but I do know it was working with SP1 on the P3 just fine.

The motherboard is a Nforce 3 250GB board which has a single Gigabit Ethernet connection onboard which is what I use to connect to my network. I do know that the A64s added Date Execution Protection that is supposed to prevent virii, spyware, etc from taking advantage of buffer runs and that Qwix does error out with a DEP error until I told my PC not to enable DEP for Qwix. So my question is anyone running a Via board with an A64, and does Qwix work or not?

me 2 I have an Athlon 64 and an Nvidia Geforce FX 5700LE and Qwix hangs at 0% complete when I click upload. I can browse my xbox and extract ISO's using QWIX, but can't do them both in one step.
ChineseGuy
I think it was mentioned somewhere in Qwix documents that Gigabitlan won't work. I also have A64, 3000+, MSI NEO platinum with nvidia 250gb chipset. http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mai...ail.php?UID=572

:-\ C-xbox tool works great, i have been using it before i even found out about Qwix. Never failed me yet. I also notice that anything with avalaunch ftp is a no go. Even with c-xbox tool. The reason i mention that is, c-xbox tool also supports boost mode. Evox seems to work great for FTP...

And... that image in the first page should really be edited....

I hate to be the bubble buster, but I've an an Athlon 2100 with a Radeon 9700...Qwix doesn't work for me...and never has.

I'm gonna burst the bubble on the "disable Windows XP SP2 firewall" theory too, mine's turned off and always has been.

Thanks for the alternative though, I'll try that and see how it goes.

in my ftp settings in Qwix i checked the box for use of PASV FTP, and now it works flawlessly. try this out!

RealTek RTL8139 Fast Ethernet Adaptor...built into my Soyo Dragon Ultra Motherboard.

FWIW.
onewhoknowsitall
i have the exact same realtek ethernet built into my mobo. i have a (crappy) emachines t1440 desktop. i was able to ftp one game flawlessly with quix then when i went to do another game it didnt work. the first file hung at 56% while the speed kept decreasing.
onewhoknowsitall
i found the problem on my machine. apparently the network drivers that protowall installs does something to mess up the ftp. i uninstalled them and qwix works perfectly for me. so check to see if protowall or any other programs have network drivers installed. that could be the cause of problems for other people also.
Mastershredder
Wow.. thanks for the info on C-Xbox Tool.. I got a new Athlon XP Nforce 3 setup right around the time I did the latest avalaunch update and thought the latest build broke the Qwix transfer. As long as I can boost transfer an ISO without a problem, i'm happy. Thanks again!
Devenic
See the new pinned topic regarding AMD64 and Nforce motherboards. Should help clear up problems for quite a few people.
Mattack
I have been using qwix for about 2 weeks, and i have transferred probably 20 different times with no problems whatsoever. today all of a sudden it hangs at 0%. i havent changed anything, outside of updating dvd2xbox to 0.6.6. and upgrading xbmc to the latest build. changed no settings, nothhing but that. now it doesnt work.

P4 2.4c
Abit IS7 motherboard with built in gigabit lan
windows xp sp2
firewall disabled
ports open

xbox connects to the internet, can be ftp'd into using qwix, flashfxp, filebooster, internet explorer, whatever. i can even upload files to it with any of the above with the exception of qwix. it will allow me to connect and browse around, but once i start transferring an iso it hangs at 0% and sometimes the xbox freezes, sometimes not.

linksys befsr41 v2 router
1.6 xbox with xecuter 2.6 and evoX/avalaunch

absolutely no problems until today. no idea why it would do that, but i'm gonna switch to c-xbox and try my luck.

but it did work with an onboard gigabit lan card and sp2 just fine until i did those installs. i dont see how that would cause these kinds of problems though.
Dawg605
Qwix works perfectly for me.

I have Windows XP SP2, the Windows firewall turned ON, and I have a router.

I dont know what problem you're having, maybe try to download and reinstall Qwix. I've had it since before I installed SP2, and have had it ever since. I've never had a problem with it. There has to be an issue somewhere else if it doesn't work then. Try rebooting your xbox, or your PC. I have had a few issues in the past, and that has usually helped. Good luck!
lordvader129
i havent hada problem with qwix under sp2, not that i wouldnt like alternative or a new release

id kill for batch ISO creation and batch extraction to local folders
jojo_nl
I have a asus p5gd2 premium wifi edition intel board
Qwix has strange problems with the Gigabit nic onboard,
While before it was working oke and drivers are WHQL
This is an marvell Glan nic.
when i turn it on 100mbit it has still the same problem as it has with glan enabled
I think this is a thread related issue from qwix program itself ..
It doesnt have enough permission to use a paticular thread in the windows xp sp2 stack.
And i get an error all the time when i ftp an ISO..
With total commander www.ghistler.de unpacked game uploads work fine and i get 10000kb/s speeds continu. While this qwix reaches only 8500 in boost mode.
The problem of not writing a single bit lies in the fact that the xbox doesnt return a working dir, so the qwix prog crashes as it doenst know where to put it. THIS can be solved by putting in some checking routines for returncodes and failure of the ftp feature.. it wont crash the xbox ftp anymore then. which it does now since it doesnt respond to errorcodes that well.
My advice is to stay with the MS specs and rulez since they like to change stuff which good programmers write themselves to prevent using m$ crap.
If u cant wait.... run Hare anticrash on it and fix the qwix file. this actually modifies the qwix prog to run like it should most of the time.
Eitherway i tested latest stable avalaunch build with different ftp progs and it sucks ...
This crappy ftp feature should be left out and you people should go lend the one from evox since they know what there doing tongue.gif
Everything i copied gives this strange errors and stuff and all related to some major bug in the passive/active mode (so it must be the core of the nic programming that is faulty on a gbit lan nic.. which can be any Glan nic)

crappy and buggy as it is i really prefer to use this qwix since it shows a very nice looking prog and has some very handy features.
Maybe i can help betatest or something since i am spending a lot of time on this anyway.

let me know....

sincerely,
jojo

I have fixed my Qwix Avalaunch Upload problems making the following changes, on my XP SP2machine, modifying the Network Connection Configuration!

goto network connections
right click on the connection, properties
on the general tab, select configure for the NIC Configuration
select Advanced Tab
change checksum offload to disable or ALL Offload Checksum properties to Disabled
hit ok

Not sure if you need to reboot or not - I did and now Qwix/Avalaunch is uploading at full speed biggrin.gif , unlike when I used Qwix/XBMC.
FuzzBallz
Heh, those option you see are usually specific to your NIC adapter model.
So this wont help those who dont have that option available to them
kayaweed
Well i would say use XBGM#
