What a great fucking browser. I'm a modest man. I don't enjoy bashing anything. But holy shit does this proggie rape IE. My opinion anyways. It's freeware. It's got a huge fanbase already. Who's with me!! ARRRRRRR! OK, enough of that. Anyway, I'm spreading the word to peeps who are sick of all the security holes and popups goin on with Internet Explorer. Give it a try.

Been using Firefox and Thunderbird for 6 months now. In the Win 98 days I always used Netscape 4. Firefox is Netscape 5 and I'm glad to see they are sticking it to IE again for the Win XP era. Get this browser and Mail client. It is the best out there for free or otherwise.

Get Firefox and Thunderbird
buttface96
Yes I agree Firefox and Thunderbird rock.

Hell yeah, I have been using Firefox for a while now. Its way better than any other browser. I would never go back to IE.

Has anyone here tried Maxthon (formerly called MyIE2)?

It has every feature that Firefox has, and more.

Firefox has some bugs displaying colors incorrectly, and not parsing HTML correctly in general. That's pretty big in my book. Firefox can't connect to WindowsUpdate, and can't display IE specific tags.

Maxthon handles all Mozilla and IE specific browser tags. It's more stable. It has better built-it search and translation features. It has better security features. It has mouse gestures, better tab support, more customization, more options, better ad blocking (including blocking floating hover ads).

I've been extensively comparing Maxthon and the new Firefox 1.0 the past week, and on faster machines I really like Maxthon. Firefox's strength seems to be that it is far less of a memory hog than the uber-broswer that is Maxthon. On my craptop (A Win2k machine with 64 megs of memory) I'm all about Firefox.

In general I support people getting away from the crap that is Inept Exploder.

Krazy Browser also isn't bad for a low-memory system. And believe it or not, I've never tried Opera because I like full-featured browsers.

(sorry for another post, wanted to edit but didnt let me...)

the only thing that sucks about thunderbird is that personally i use netscape, and it says i couldnt swap it over which was disapointing.

Firefox is only better than IE if you're too stupid to practice safe networking. It's slower, and less compatible.

you can uninstall it. But you shouldn't. The program to do it is called IEradicator.
And if you remove IE you won't be able to use windows update, and you will be stuck when a page won't load in firefox. Luckily I haven't experienced any page loading problems since 1.0 .
stinkytwinky
i dont really think firefox is much faster then IE all it does is loads the page first the the pictures unlike IE wich load the whole page at one time
Mr. Chips
if pages loading half a second faster is important to you, and you don't care about all the security flaws, go right ahead!
Plus IE gets hijacked so easily now, everytime you use it you get a "free search bar".

That's not IE being hacked, that's you opting to install some software that you shouldn't say Yes to.

MS implements a useful feature (easy plugin installtion), and they can't help it if rogue sites exploit people who don't have enough sense/knowledge to not install software that they don't trust.

Firefox scrolls much slower than IE. And Firefox still has bugs (e.g. deviantart listboxes screwed up bad, IGN frontpage (and others) flicker)

You have to be kidding me.

There are tons of programs that install themselves in the background without asking you. Do you know how often I clean spyware and crap off people's computers?

Then I install a host file, block certain domains, and tell the person to switch to a real browswer like Maxthon or Firefox.

Then they don't get anymore spyware. It's amazing how that works. IE is the most inept and unsecure browser I've ever seen, and I've tried most every browser ever coded.

Seriously, the answer is Maxthon. Everyone I've shown the browser falls in love. Try it.

It has 100% compatibility with IE. It even runs Windows Update and Office Update. It has all the extra features of Firefox, and then some. It's stable, secure, customizable all day long, and kicks IE's butt.

Try Maxthon.

Firefox is just really nice, and makes for a much better browsing experience. I especially like tabs, and Bookmark Keywords so I can just type [xs] instead of [www.xbox-scene.com]. However, I -don't- like the fact that you can't turn off auto-search from the address line - like if you type in something it can't find, it will search for a page and automatically go there; IE lets you turn this off. I used to use Opera, but as they added more and more features, it got more bothersome to use(ironically). Also, more pages are being coded towards support of Firefox anyway (best viewed in Mozilla 'n stuff like that).

Why is no one listening.

Get Maxthon. All the features of Firefox, none of the bugs, and more.

With Firefox, the auto search is annoying and goes directly to a page.

With Maxthon I can customize the search features so my default search gives me the google results, and say if I type "ast paint shop pro" it will search Astalavista.box.sk for a paint shop pro crack, etc. I can customize the auto-translation features, use IE and Mozilla specific tags in web pages, etc. etc. etc.

Refer to any of my previous posts about users being too stupid to practice safe networking.

I'm an IT professional, and let me tell you that using IE is the best way to not practice safe networking.

If you want to surf the net safely, use something else. But that's merely one step.

Here's a great resource for anyone looking to surf the web safer.
