once i put avalaunch on the hdd (used to use evox, but kept it on the hdd) i cant connect via ftp, but when i delete ava via evox then i can ftp, untill i put ava back on. could someone plz help

i attempted to move a folder within the file manager and it started to and just froze about about 10 seconds.
i was trying to move it from the f drive to the g drive.

thanks for the free awsome dashboard! i have a bug in the skins, when enabling skins to be downloaded the first pictures comes up fine then everyother picture is the default? if i reset ava the last picture thatsa was downloaded appears. also some games like thug 2 and soulcaliber 2 do not want to play with my component video cables only with the original MS cables? now i am having a problem playing my copy of halo2. it works fine in any unmodded xbox, and until yesterday it only worked in my modded one. my freind came over with his to up grade some things so i tried his and it did not play. i let him borrow it to play at his home on his unmodded but he tried it again at his house in the modded one and it played? the game will usually start but when you go to hit start at the start screen it freezes. probably not the dashboard but any sugestions. love this dashboard though. also when playing cds mine just tries to keep relauching the cd while dvds freeze. dvds play fine with dvdx and cds work fine in the M$ dash. keep up the good work!!

I know it has been mentioned before, so allow me to confirm that there are serious issues with the embedded FTP client.

I've been attempting to use it to transfer large amounts of data (60+ GB) from one box to two other boxes. Four out of five times it has locked up somewhere in the middle of the operations.

It crashes hard and the systems become completely locked. only powering off and back on will get it going again.

I've had to drop back to 0.49.1 which I know worked.

you may try to enable the unstable tree
then update avalaunch to b136

you can also choose to use the non-boost ftp server

i also have experienced some FTP lock up issues

when i click on an avi file in the file manager avalaunch freezes and i need to restart the box by pushing the eject botton

i am experiencing lockups when ftping large amounts. these weren't happening with the previous version.

found a couple of bugs...

• If you change keyboardtype when you haven't hidden the virtual keyboard when entering something in for eg the settings, it gets stuck... meaning you can't hide/unhide it...
• The RSS interpreter is abit to fuzzy about errors, and probably when using RDF 2.0 whith some unsupported features it hangs the hole box. Another ting is that it would be abit more useful if it handeled lunger strings as for now it just fades them out in the middle of it if there too long... A feature would be also to use not only the title but the description also, after a " : ".
• The KAI interface is buggy.. when navigating arenas it can just go blanc when scrolling down a few lines. The adding of friends isnt working.

I have only had this problem of locking up while at idle since upgrading to .49.2. Will there be a fix for it soon, or should we just go back to .49.1 and wait for .50?

Also, though not .49.2 related, I have been using Ava since .48 something, and have NEVER been able to get the APOD or ACAM skins to work. The box locks up imediately after enabling one of them.

Xlink Arena isnt working that well, it hangs at times

I wanted to copy about 110 GB from one xbox 2 another.
The Transfer dialog freezes and and nothing is copied when I add all folders at once.
If I transfer them in little pieces like 3 folders a time everything seems to work.

2 problems:

1. Same FTP problem as others started in .2

2. When launching some xbe's, the xbox hangs on the loading screen with the led staying red. Doesn't always happen.

I dont seem to be able to get my DVD's to autoplay like they did with the old version! I have checked the .xml and it is pointing in the right directory but it just wont auto play it

Same bugs that I have run across in the past with Avalaunch, otherwise this dash rules!


It still locks up randomly after awhile while idle (either during the screensaver or not) and playing MP3's. Its kinda annoying, but I've been living with it since its been in every build of avalaunch so far.


I'm not sure if these are contributing factors or not:


RSS feeds are on (not sure if this matters much, but it is not consistant with it being hooked up on the internet or just LAN)

APOD is off

and of course, it is setup to play MP3's from a specified folder on the Hard Drive.


It will also lockup during long Quix to X-Box file transfers or X-Box to X-Box transfers. To temporaily avoid this I have to have the X-Box running X-Box Media Center (Which doesn't lock up) and the have Quix transfer whatever I need. Boost seems to work as I get 10MB/s transfers. As for X-Box to X-Box transfers I have to have the receiving X-Box to be in XBMC and then transfer that way so I don't risk of it locking up or not.


Please fix the lock up. Its like the only thing I've noticed that has been a major issue.



On a seperate issue, the FTP transfers do not work when you are in "FTP Server non-boost Mode". It will report that you are using an illegal login.

here's something odd
i did a soft reboot and the screen just went black. it never rebooted. i was trying to run a game and decided to play another one so i did a soft reboot and thats when it happened ;(

I found a major and a minor bug.

Major bug:
I think avalauch has a memory leak. When I start my box and then do nothing for about 3 hours it just freezes. I did not try it with the screensaver turned off, but I think the screensaver is the source of the problem. I tested a Xbox with a older alpha of Avalauch (the version before the screensaver was included) and there was no crash after 5 hours.

Minor bug:
I have got a Logitech Compact controller. When I try to use the quickload feature by holding "L" on boot it does it's not working. After this the "L-Button" is deactivated util I reboot the Xbox.

1. FTP servern dosnt seem to handel files bigger then ~500mb. The file size gets a negative size, like "- 1 350 000".

2. FTP server got a filename length look. We I try to upload some games to the harddrive i just get a windows in Qwix saying one of the filenames is to long and needs to be renamed. And if you do, the game wont start.

3. In the game list Avalaunch got some problems reading some xbe-files picture. FightClub picture dosnt work in Avalaunch. But UnleashX can read it.

Possible bug:

Can't use an RSS newsfeed that doesn't end in ".XML".

Is it me or does the random song player tend to play the same songs over and over? I have 40gb's of music on my xbox and it always seems to follow the same routine.

I have just setup XLink in Avalaunch and I am experiencing a strange problem, perhaps someone else can test and see if they also see it, I suspect it maybe a bug in avalaunch xlink kai browser with long arena names.

Using the Avalaunch Xlink Arena browser goto the 'Arena/XBOX/Racing and Flying' arena.
I can get a list of all the arenas and I can go into the first two, but when I scroll to the third entry 'Arena/XBOX/Racing and Flying/Hot Wheels - Stunt Track Challenge' the list of arenas disappears and I can't scroll further down to select the other arenas.
I also noticed this happens in the 'Arena/XBOX/Third Person Shooter' arena with 'Arena/XBOX/Third Person Shooter/Steel Battalion - Line of Contact'

Problem I am having is that on a V1.3 Box, the avalaunch dash locks up when I select file manager.

I am using a 120 GIG maxtor HDD and 1959. 49.2 Avalaunch Dash.

Mine does this too, Is there a way to disable the screen saver?

that's not true at all. my box sleeps sometimes 6 hours, and has never freezed with avalaunch as primary dash.

I figured it out on my own. It was not any of these things. My hardware is fine, modchip is fine and also install is fine.

I was running avalaunch version 49.2 and when I upgraded to avalaunch 49.3 and ran all updates including XML update and Language update, the problem went away. I hope if anyone else has this problem, they will find this info here.

Well, it is true with my xbox.

new bug in .3
When ACAM is turned on, it repeatedly downloads pictures over and over again, and doesnt change. So I have an acam background, and then it downloads 65kb or something from that skins site, but then the picture doesn't change and avalaunch then just downloads it again.
When Avalaunch is downloading these pictures, if you try and launch anything, it just freezes on the loading screen and the LED stays red. Therefore I can't load anything from Avalaunch atm.

ok since acam went down, and i was getting the 404 page not found error, i tireid turning acam off



then put on a regular skin....

still getting the error nto found, and it keeps trying to download acam skins.....


so i tired to reboot (using the avalaunch menu button)

xbox freezes........

I too have had a problem with Ava freezing on FTP/network transfer Xbox->xbox or to/from a PC, in both versions .2 and .3... Until last night .3 was working flawlessly, and when I tried to transfer a couple audio cd's from my PC to the Xbox, it started freezing.... and now it practically freezes anytime it just idles for a long while...

All the network stuff is disabled (ie. newsfeeds which seemed to crash .2 if you didnt have the xbox on a internet lan, and the skins network stuff) with only the options that allow me to FTP in and make changes (or download skins manually) are enabled... so no random auto connects from the xbox......

I hope someday to see this fixed.... cause its by far the most annoying thing

XMAS 49.3

ACAM is also not working for me. I'm currently using Static IP (as I've always used). I get the 404 error whenever ACAM is enabled. Luckily, I had been saving them to my hard drive, so I can now cycle through local pics until ACAM functionality returns

I also had a problem the other day when FTPing over a file with an overly long name. Attempting to xfer the file caused Ava to lock up. Had to hit the power button to reboot (although, thankfully, I have an IR mod that will let me power down/up)

Team Avalaunch is there a way to fix this "Web Engine Error" or at least stop it from flashing on the screen? I'm a newby with this stuff and it is quite confusing when this error is flashing constantly.

I am currently using XMAS ver. 49.3. Xbox locks up at the AVALaunch splash screen, anyone else experiencing the same problem? I've also tried FTPing to the box to see what I could see but FTP doesn't work.

I am currently using XMAS ver. 49.3. And i can´t get some NTSC games to work on a PAL xbox. If i change the mode to NTSC in eeprom then it works fine.

There must be a problem in the autovideomode switch.

One game that dosn't work is "The guy game" it´s NTSC, and if i change to NTSC in eeprom it works.

And all my pal´s has the same problem so it´s not only my xbox.

Is there a way to set ICONs on "shut down" "filemanager" in Avadash?

After updating my dash this weekend to xmas .49.3 I no longer have the game listings from the games that reside on my "G" partition. I have enabled the partition in setup, the file manager can see the drive, dvd2xbox can see it, but in my games menu none of the games show up. Has it been so long since I've had any problems that I've forgotten a step? Or do we have some bugs in .49.3?
Please let me know if I've just lost my mind.

Avalaunch won't display full screen even though the MS dash is set to 4:3 TV type. It displays letterboxed on my regular aspect TV. What's tripping it up is that I have 1080i enabled (because my TV is indeed an HD 4:3 TV that supports 480p and 1080i.) So, when I turn off 1080i in the MS dash that 'fixes' the problem (i.e. avalaunch displays full screen.) But I shouldn't have to do that.

My MS dash settings are correct for my TV type: I've enabled 480p & 1080i and set my TV to 4:3 (i.e. not Widescreen). I don't have a problem with the MS Dash or the EvoX dash displaying improperly so there's something that Avalaunch is doing differently.

I would really like Avalaunch to display in full screen mode on a non-Widescreen HD TV with 1080i enabled.

i recently upgraded to a 400gb HD and avalaunch takes forever to load up now. id like to blame it on the drive being so much larger but the seek times for the drive are quite lower than were my old 120. it only seems to be a problem with avalaunch as i have tried about 5 other dashes to see if the same problem occured within them.

Got a problem in my game list.
I tried a game and it worked nice but after reboot the game gets listed as '?????????????????' and if i try to edit the xbe title i get 'gamename???????????????????'. I can't start this game from avalaunch now but it works in evox. (the title works and i can run it from evox.)

The Xbox to Xbox transfer thing build into Avalaunh still suxx. When both machines runs the latest Avalaunch it just wont work, perhaps it would be a good idea to fix this before even thinking about putting new functions into a dashboard that suxx so much. Beside of that, great dashboard.
