i put longer cables on my x3 so that i can put the modchip ontop of my hardrive/cdrom drive in the middle below the jewel...
since the x3 has 2 blue led's on it it lights up the jewel and ur good to go, also a good way to show off that u have a legit x3 (for future issues)
*shakes fist at clones*
my jewel isnt cleared... i have the crystal xbox.. but it does leave a shinny blue ring around my jewel

1 problem i ran into is the wire hardness for the x3 is too deep...
so i had to just run wires into the sockets instead (tried soldering from below but it got messy)

how bright are the leds on the chip? Is there still room for an led ring with the chip under the jewel? sounds pretty cool anyway....I wanna see some pics!!!

bad news everyone...
i noticed that the job i did was a lil shaky (feeding wires thought the sockets rather then a harness
so i started modifying the harness (trimming it down)
so that it wouldnt be a 50/50 shot of my xbox turning on correctly
(wires in sockets shook around a bit and had to keep being re-fed)
first i tried soldaring to the bottom of the x3... but that didnt seem to work at all...
then i tried again... re-doing all wires...
didnt work again... thought maybe i fried my xbox...
so i hooked them up through the harness again.. worked fine...
but for some reason no matter what i do i get to the same conclusion...
this wireing harness has magical powers... and if tampered with will not grant your wishes of ultimate xbox power

anyone else accually do this mod yet that could sujest reasons why my soldaring to the bottom of the x3 would not have worked (it worked but only if i held the power button until the x3 logo came up otherwize it would do the usual boot up 3 times thing and display nothing)

Um technically thats still lighting your jewel with LEDs.
light-blade
Nov 29 2004, 06:25 AM
well, technically you're not leding your jewel though...
you may be adding led's but not directly
you're modchipping your jewel
its much more awquard to do...
and thank you for your waste of a post

So now you are mad because I pointed out that the jewel is still being lit up by LEDs? Grow up.

CC's are better, they give you a nice clean glow...

Nov 29 2004, 07:36 AM
where in the post did i say it wasnt lit up using some led's
to led your jewel is to accually wire in some led's and resistors and do the whole job...
i am not adding a single led when moving the modchips location....
but keep arguing all u want... its irrelevent to the post...
as for your wastes of posts.. thoes are facts....
so before you tell me to grow up.. could you please stop attacking posts for no reason
thank you

The fact is still that the jewel is being lit by LEDs. To LED a jewel simple means that the jewel is being lit by LEDs. It does not matter how you do it it, it is still being lit by LEDs.

That is still using LEDs to lit a jewel. So I guess it should read "Why Led Your Jewel? when what this actually is is still leding your jewel!"
Yes this is different. Is is still LEDing a jewel? Yes.

how, they are all blotchy. where as cold cathodes are bright and even. and take less time to install

i don't know its jsut me, it doesn't take any skill to put a cc in, i think it is cooler if you do it by yourself casue you have that self satisfaction that you did it, and if it comes out good that you did that. anyone can put a cathode in even my 12yr old bro. i don't know it is just me

personal preference.
i get the satisfied feeling when i put my CC in.
But then again this is my first mod ever so i am extremely happy with how it turned out.

my new LEDs for my jewel are waiting at the post office, 8 blue ones, gonna put em in tomorrow.
i'd like to see this modchip jewel though. it'd look good with a cleared jewel, especially if the X3 lights light up up the whole chip so it gives it a cool look

long wires are bad for the mods.. the longer they get, the more sensitive they get to interference, so even just moving them could cause the mod to malfunction.

Thats not nessscesarily true. It depends if they're stripped a lot and how you connected it. You could have a 50 ft. wire and only have like 3 mm stripped and a perfect connection and you can wiggle it as much as you want and nothing should happen as long as you have a good connection. I think LEDs are better because they give pure color where cathodes colors are shit(most of them, not all) and CCs are not even because it isnt a complete circle of light, there is about a cm missing, and you can make LEDs even. It is all about skill with LEDs. Not just plug and play

uhm.. ever heard of line resistance? the longer a wire is, the higher its resistance.
higher resistance = weaker signal. weaker signal = malfunctions.
the plastic coating has NOTHING at all to do with it, wether you strip 1 mm or 30 cm makes no difference (unless you short them against each other, obviously).
