Chunk I followed his guide on taking the game and putting it onto a dvd with nero and I didn't get the error you did. I did get that error about teh black screen as you do. I'm burning the dvd now sitting here at 16% and counting so I'll let you know how it goes after it's done.
bearauto
Hey how do I run a dvd-r with the dvd cover off? it seems like it needs something to help balance it as it's spinning. any advice?

basically i want to see what's happening to the disc when the game freezes.
Shad0wx1337
i just got though the black screen by doing that EVOX debug telnet trick.
Here is what i did

First turn the TSR option to Debug in System Settings and save. Reboot Xbox.
Then select Kotor 2 and load your save, make sure it is before the black screen.
Now on you computer open up Internet Explore and type "telnet:your_xbox_ipaddress"
A new window should pop up.
Now what you want to do is get to the scene where the T3 is getting blasted and type "FR" in the new window and press ENTER right before the scene changes to the black screen. The screen should freeze.
Next type "UF" The screen should unfreeze and the game should continue.
If it does not work the first time keep trying. This really works.

I just talked to everyone on atris's place got droid and other characters and left. But I also shut autosave off and have been making random saves just in case.

I am past that place. This is right after you leave Atris's place and you are on the Ebon Hawk with the handmaidden stowaway.

cool.gif Hell yes, thank you so much, worked on my first try.
Tha_Jackal
Hey,

I used the telnet method also, worked perfectly the first time i tried!

This was a huge relief considering id tried everything up to this point.

I know its not the most sure solution, but its the only one thats worked for me so far...

Whoever figured this out = genious laugh.gif

Peace.

P.S *I experienced some pretty bad frame jumping when i went into the mining tunnels after bypassing the droid getting zapped, anyone else whos backed it up have this problem?*
rudemood12
i just got zapped by the freeze entering the ebon hawk for the first time. goddamit. are these bugs, or what?
gman896
Wow, that telnet thing really did work. I tried everything else before that, and that was the only thing that worked. Thank you so much.

I found the fix on a location that xbox-scene seems to hate.

Link from my page

IM me at vyperstrike and I'll tell you what the site is, or get the file above. I don't have much transfer, so I can't host the actual files.

That file appears to be broken. do you have another link? thanks

Anyone tried this yet?

Okay, i made it to the spacewalk by reloading every time i crashed and saving every few minutes. basically making baby steps.

i also removed the cover off my phiillips drive to see the dvd spinning and to see what happens when it freezes.

basically the dvd stops spinning and the game freezes. now why the heck would the dvd stop spinning?
b-gates
After putting the game on my HD using Quix I added the patched xbe but still got the black screen when the droid gets shot.

I tried the movie trailer trick but this didn't work either.

Next I tried the debug TSR method and it worked on the 2nd attempt. I have been playing with no problems ever since.

Is there any other cool stuff you can do with TSR in debug mode?
gman896
Ya, that was the first time I have ever used the debug mode. It was pretty cool. I am sure there are an infinite number of things that can be done.

i cant get telnet to work
it never connects when i am int he game
do i connect before i load kotor? or after?
Xchief
Hi. I've pretty much tried all of the example mentioned in this post, but still keep getting the black screen. When trying to do that telnet method, it says it is connecting to "my xbox ip address" but then all of the sudden, the telnet window closes? I would really appreaciate any help. Thanks.
Xchief
Nevermind!! I got the telnet to work. For anyone having trouble, go into evox, then go into internet explorer and type telnet:"your xbox ip address"
Once it is connected, go into launch games, and launch kotorII
In the telnet window, it should say goodbye, and close
go back to internet explorer and type telnet:"your xbox ip address" again
it should connect
then as the first guy who posted said, type FR, then as soon as the screen starts to turn black, his enter, then type UF and hit enter
worked like a charm if u time it right!
THANK YOU SO MUCH whoever posted this first!
viewwin
I try the telnet and get a connection in evox. Then i load the game and telnet will never reconnect, it just closes the window after a few seconds.

OK, so I got the "new" xbe and I burned a new disc. unfortunately, it's just as buggy. maybe its just a prob in the mine?

By the way, you guys probably don't need to use your disc at all. I'm running 100% from the HDD and got past the robot/console problem by watching the video.

100% played from HDD up to terminal.
Did not access terminal.
Saved.
Quit.
Watched movie.
Came back from getting iced tea.
Movie was done.
Loaded game I saved.
Played through just fine.
I'm now bored with the game and will probably sell it. sad.gif

(I didn't think the slow pace of the first game could have been made slower. I was wrong. This game is ssssssssssssssssllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.)

Ok, i got the idea. Dude lets recall this dudes steps, so i thought "Friggin run to the store" i got back with one "Ice Tea" and did the following..

100% played from HDD up to terminal.
Did not access terminal.
Saved.
Quit.
Watched movie.
Came back from getting ice tea.
Movie was done.
Loaded game I saved.
Everything went to hell.
Cursed at the newly bought ice tea.
Killed the ice tea.
Logged back on Xbox-Scene.
Wrote this post.

btw, what brand of ice tea did you get? what flavour?
ill prolly try this again.

rename the swdirsXbox.ini to swdirsXbox_.ini. Problem solved. For those you play the game from HD.

yeah man! i didn't get kotor 1 but i did rent it. i decided to buy this one and now realize what an a-hole i was to miss part one. i love this game and this is coming from a habitual rpg hater. but i love star wars. anyhow, was having the hd problem and i just used the disk to play for like 20 hours. i saw the telnet post and man it worked first time, thanks. whoever posted this the first time and the second time, you are the man. i knew that telnet method in evox would come handy some day. thanks again.
viewwin
How are you able to telnet during a game? I have tried everything. Help?
photoposite
like they said, go to evox settings and select debug. then enter telnet:xxx.xxx.x.xxx
the x's are your xbox ip. so for example, if your xbox ip is 192.0.0.0 then enter telnet:192.0.0.0 and thats it from the internet explorer. then a window pops up and then hit fr to freeze the game and then uf to unfreeze it. thats it. hope that helps.
kanezfan
did anyone else try my trick? i want to know if it really works or if i just got lucky. basically, when the cut scene with the droid getting zapped starts, hold down the start button, and that worked for me, as soon as the droid was zapped, it went to an autosave screen. anyone?
Weds13
NOTE: FOR PEOPLE THAT GET BLACKSCREEN AND RUNNING FROM HD.
THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS..

I dont care if people reply saying: But editing my ini worked.
Well it dosent work for most people.

Ok guys. Listen up..
For those that hasnt got the game to function properly by editing the ini file, this is the right solution i promise you this will work.

Like Shad0wx1337 said:
Go into yer Evox settings:
Enable Telenet.
Scroll down to misc, and Activate Debug where TSR is located.
Save and exit.

Start Kotor and load your save game, then access telenet by opening Explorer on your pc and type inn the following in the adress field.
telnet:xxx.xxx.x.xxx
Enter your Xbox ip where the X`s are located
for example if your xbox ip is 192.0.0.0 then enter telnet:192.0.0.0.
if you enter telenet on Evox dashboard, youll get a message when you start kotor,
the message looks like this.
C:\\Bye.
Lost connection to host.
So its crucial that you start telenet after you have started Kotor2.

Access the terminal open the emrgency doors, logout and then the facked up cut scene will start where the droids get Pwned with the laser.
After the droid gets hit by the laser
weite the following into the Telenet window:

FR This will freeze the game.
and then
UF to unfreeze the game.

After youve done this the load screen will pop up after the cut scene, if this dosent work, try FR right before the blackscreen hits, it will work.

I tried everything, fixing the ini downloaded the fix modded the Xbe.
THe Bios version has shit to say in this matter and the Evox version, This can`t and will not fail.

Thanks to Shad0wx1337 for making the world a better place to.. um..
playing Kotor2

Please try this before you reply on this thread with things like.
Can`t get kotor2 to work, ive edited my ini file, but it still dosent work.
What bios are you running and what Evox version? (Dosent mean shit in this case)
Where can i get the fix? (Newflash: The fix dosent work either)

If you dont want to try this, fine..
It`s up to you.

OK, just for completeness, this is what I tried/success rates (I have a xenium ice with latest firmware and latest xecuter bios):

I tried going from the auto-save and operating the terminal about 15 times... didnt ever work.

Tried by same method 2-3 times booting with the evox m8 bios... didnt work

I tried watching the video and then loading the auto-save and using the console about 5 times... didnt ever work

I tried clearing the chache and then trying the first way 2-3 times... didnt ever work

I tried clearing the cache and then watching the video twice... didnt ever work

I loaded the game from the auto-save and playing off of the DVD, worked fine with both the official DVD and a burned dvd-r first time, both times.

A friend of mine, with an Xecuter2 and an older xecuter bios, had the same feezing problems. He also fixed it by using the disc during this portion, and then continuing off the HD...

Once again, for people who just CANT get by this point for soem reason, I have posted a save which features a saved point directly after this bug.. you can find it here:
http://www.primedrecordings.com/bjtest/4c410014.zip

The link to the save file does not works.... Could u post again the file plz??

THX!!

Ok, i've tried to backup two other games and they're freezing too. it's either my discs or my drive.

Avalaunch doesn't have a telnet debug program. You can place the evox dashboard in your apps folder, rename the xbe to default.xbe and launch evox from avalaunch.

I was stuck in the same place with the droid at the computer console, and I tried every ones personal solutions to the game, the movie trick, ect. Eventually after like a whole day of trying to get past it i made a couple of new save slots, so that each one was from the same point in the game. Then I just kept on trying to get past it. I'll point out everything I did in detail.
Multiple saves with the droid standing right in front of the terminal, never interacted with the terminal though. Had a grand total of three save slots used, and loaded off of the 1st save slot the time that it did work. From here I interacted with the computer, and just got bored during the cutscene. At this point I just started mashing the buttons, musta pressed everything live 4 times, no particular order. Then the AutoSave pops up as soon as the screen went dark after the cutscene with the droid. The wierd thing is that I had tried to get past this point with this same method maybe 10 times yesterday, and it never worked.

Im just guessing here but in my expierience computers (xbox) shouldn't act all schitso(sp?) ie works sometimes, but most of the time wont. Usually its an all or nothing game. Normally if I knew someone that was having this kinna problem I would say:
Corrupt RAM (Bad ram makes computers act like thier possesed by demons)
Corrupt Game Backup (I've heard people are havin problems with this)
HDD vs. DVD transfer times could cause it, since the game wasn't designed to run from backup ( This would be a completely slimey way to implement copy protection, but effective, and Id give M$ mad props for even coming up with the idea)
Maybe a new protection scheme since it seems like allot of the newer games people are having troubles with.
*Personaly I'm leaning towards some HDD vs. DVD transfer sync problem. Dont know why, but it seems to explain the widespread schitso(sp?) nature of this bug. It could also explain why some people are not having the problem at all. A 7200RPM has a little bit more kick than a 5400RPM, then factor in HDD Cache size, drive fragmentation ect. all of these things effect seek time on the drive.
Another thing is that when I finally did work for me the box had been off overnight, and I had reset the xbox like 5 times setting up EvoX before i even entered the game. Ohh yeah and IMHO that movie trick is a joke, but hey to each his own. Whatever works.
Lightsier
Oddly, on my little brother's XBox (ver 1.0, UDE2 hack w/ metool v.1.2 with stock harddrive) plays KOTOR II without any flaws.

My friend's XBox (ver 1.6, UDE2 hack w/ metool v 1.2, WD 80GB HDD), he got stuck at that place. Had to use the Evox debug trick.

Only works if you load up KOTOR II through Evox.

Crazy, I dunno what's up.
bearauto
No solutions for playing off of dvd-r though huh? Of course, it could just be my dvd drive or my burner, or my discs.
kingb123
CAN SOMEONE JUST POST THE SAVE FILE?!?!? ARGH!
Lightsier
If somebody posted the save file then everybody would be forced to play at the same person.
House
I tried the Telnet workaround, but it seems I'm not able to telnet into my console when KOTOR2 is running. It works fine when I'm just sitting in the dashboard. I have the Debug on TSR set to yes under Misc. What else do I need to fix?
Dom80
Im in the same situation as you house, I cant load telnet while the game is running, I ony can at the evox dash.
this sucks
House
Glad to hear it's not just me. Anyone know what settings could possibly be wrong?
franchiseplayer
Its nothing wrong with the Xbox.

I've tried this on three Xboxes with the following dashboards and this is the only thing to have worked each time;

1) UnleashX
2) EvoX
3) Avalaunch

I don't know exactly what that change does, but it fixed it, if someone knows what that 'UseLocalContent' means, I'm sure an all-round fix can be done.

My guess is that it tells the game to only load assets from the E: and F: drives (or whatever the "local" drives are) and not the D drive which is the Xbox CD drive.

It may be freezing/crashing because it is looking for a file on the D drive... Non-local content... And the file isn't there.
kiros_mysterio
Ok this is I hope can save you guys some time . I was going to try the telnet fix but my evo didnt have a tsr option under misc if anyone knows why please let me know . What did work on the first try was the simplest fix that was posted, I spent over an hour looking through answers but the first time I tried the holding the start button right before the black screen it went through and saved no issues at all. Just as soon as the screen goes black press and hold start and game should then start loading hope this works for you giuys too cause its an easy fix

Alright...

I tried every method in this thread.
Played with the .ini: no dice.
Movie hack: didn't work.
TSR Debug thingy: That actually works.

At first the debug wouldn't work. I was running EvoX 3931 and couldn't telnet into the Xbox after a game was loaded.

I then upgraded my BIOS to the M8 version and took EvoX to 3935, and voila! The debug trick works.

Don't know if the BIOS version really had anything to do with it, but I'd suggest using EvoX version 3935 to get around this really annoying problem.
b-gates
I forgot to say before, I use the newest Evox too. My Bios is X2 4981 but I believe that has no relevance.

For those having difficulty with TSR, you don't have to open it untill you've loaded the game back again. Also, make sure you SAVE AND EXIT after you select debug in the system settings. Make sure you reboot too or the changes wont be saved to the evox ini. It should go without saying that you need to load the game through Evox if using the Evox TSR debug mode.

Here's how to do it, in easy steps...

1st MAKE SURE YOU CAN NETWORK YOUR PC AND XBOX!
Save KOTOR2 right before you access the terminal
Boot to Evox
Change TSR mode to debug in System Settings
SAVE AND EXIT, now reboot xbox
Load Evox again, choose KOTOR 2 and load your save game
Ok, now leave the game alone for a second and open an internet window in your PC
Type this in the address bar telnet:192.168.0.3, but obviously with your IP
A new window will pop up so type FR but don't press ENTER yet
Now play KOTOR 2 up untill the cut-scene where the droid gets shot and just as the screen fades to black hit ENTER on your computer keyboard.
Now simply type UF, hit ENTER and the game should load the next section.

I'm now 23hrs into it and the only other problems I can report are a few slow downs when fighting lots of enemies. No, tell a lie, I've had it crash once after the a certain event on a certain planet (no spoilers!) but all I did was load my last save game.

As the game says "Save often and in many slots", very wise words! Not only in case it fucks up but so you can reload after making bad choices or getting your ass kicked!

I never want this game to end, ever.
GaryGnu
hi all!
i too suffer from the black screen of death/broken droid syndrome.
i modified the ini to require localcontent - no dice.
i held down start, no dice
i tried telnet -- my evox is probably too old, so i dl'd the newest one today, i'll try tonight.
if colsandz or some other kind soul is willing to post a save game right after the problem, i'd be willing to host it on my website, www.gadgetaddict.com for a week or so (depending upon how badly my bandwidth gets hit)
my dvd drive is screwy so playing off the original is really not an option.
i started the game with the middle character, male, which i understand is the same as the colonials'...
any help would be greatly appreciated. btw, the ice tea method didn't work -- maybe because i urinated (which looks like iced tea) versus going downstairs for one. regardless, i've played the sith trailer many times to no avail. and deleted caches. and pulled out my hair...
finally, for whatever it's worth, for some reason i can't get into my gadgetaddict account here -- i had to create this newbie account -- maybe obsidian wrote the code for xbox-scene? smile.gif
thanks for any help!!!!
b-gates
I haven't looked myself but I reckon you might find what you're after at www.xbox-saves.com

Just get the newest Evox and try the telnet trick. At least then you can use your own save game.
