Hi

I have v1.4 (or 1.5 which is very not likely) xbox modded with xenium ice solderless and have m8 bios with evox (slayers v2.6 i think).
All other hardware is stock.
Every time i back up my game on DVD+RW (Imation) i get either slow gameplay (Ghost Recon 2 - low frame rate) or texture lag(like HALO 2).
Anyone knows why or mayb how to fix it?

Thanx in advance
maxymax86
and the funny thing is that i get slow gameplay in single player mode, but in co-op split screen the game runs at high frame rates and without any lags or whatever (i though its supopsed to b the other way around??????).
Plz help

try -r or -rw's --- I've heard that on all Xbox's that the "minus" works a lot better than "plus"

Otherwise check out the thread on "layout optimisation" (its about putting the files in order as they are called upon, like Original discs are; while mose iso makers put them in alphabetical order, so the laser jumps around to find needed files, thus causing lag.) This made a difference for me in Splinter Cell 2; ever since then I ditched Quix and use MooGUI for all backups.

if interested -- do a search on MooGUI, worth a shot, or else try some -r or -rw media. ~JS

I hear you there. I had problems with a few games I backed up with Qwix. DDE Errors, Slow loads, stuttering. One game being MK Deception. Just tried rebacking up with an optimized layout and MooGUI and it works flawlessly. Just like the original.

I'm a believer now as well. No more Qwix for me!

I dont think its layout problem one coz for example halo 2 has only about 10-15 files in the iso.... doubt it is +rw problem either - u c when i run the game in co-op split screen mode there is no lags or low frame rates... Though quite rarely i get DDE in halo2 when the map is loading...
but thanx for the replies anyways. i will try to use this moogui thing and c what happens.
cheers

Maybe try a bios loader like PBL with a Xecuter bios and see if it affects anything. Also try deleting everything from E:/Cache, X:, Y:, and Z: drives.

I will bet almost anything that it is your media. RW formats are the worst to use on XBOX DVD Drives. They simply aren't as compatible as a write once -R disc. Try it on a quality DVD-R/+R and I bet you it will solve your problem. wink.gif

yeah i suspect its the goddam +rw problem... but if it is why the split screen mode runs just fine????? that is what really wrecks my head.... how can that be???

I got one more question guys.... is it better to use +r or +rw (not burned b4) media coz my dvd supports only +r/+rw

Or maybe i should just get -r/-rw writer? but again, the split screen runs fine on +rw media, so the investment in -r/-rw writer could possibly lead nowhere and -100 sumthing euro in me pocket smile.gif

what do i do?
cheers

Imation are also really crappy media
maxymax86
u reckon?

For data and DVD movies it worked for me great...

What type of media would u suggest that suits xbox backups best?
rkwhippo
All you quix haters were you using the optimization feature of quix after you made your iso's if not follow this tutorial

First of all, quit getting suckered into buying store name labels. They outsource to a number of manufacturers so quality can be a guessing game (since quality varries significantly from manufacturer to manufacturer. Taiyo Yuden is unquestionably the champ as far as manufacturers are concerned. They manufacture some batches of discs for Fujifilm, Verbatim, ect. Anyways you can get Taiyo Yuden for great prices at http://www.rima.com. The site is among the highest rated for customer service, so no worries there. wink.gif

I think it has a lot to do with the game caching to the hard drive. By that, I mean, it copies data it will frequently use to the hard drive because it is quicker to access from the HD than from the disc.

There may be more caching involved in a multiplayer game vs. solo on Halo 2 - or just less data being accessed from the DVD while in game, and the speed differences between the two (HD and disc) is why you see lag, and sometimes you don't.

This is of course just a theory, but again I think it may be a media issue.

I don't hate quix, i just found something WAY better. The optimization in Quix and the one in MooGUI are COMPLETELY two different things. Optimised or not in Quix, the disc you burn the files are laid out in alphabetical order, while with MooGUI the files are laid out in an order by priority and seek orders.

I've had a 100% backup rate with quix, don't get me wrong -- EXCELLENT program, but I've found MooGUI produces backups which load faster and with less DVD laser seeking (more quiet) than one with Quix.

Definately recommend giving MooGUI a try ~JS

That makes sense. In two player they now the screens are smaller for each view so they use less detailed textures and 3D models. If they used the same resolution models and textures in 2 player splitscreen mode, the game would run 1/2 as fast.

could it be a bios issue? i have evox m8 bios.... mayb sum1 experienced slow gameplay of a backup with this bios too?
maxymax86
ah yeah 1 more thing guys.... the website u were talkin about to buy decent media..... the rima.com one.... does any1 know if they deliver their stock without any damage to europe? or will i just get a squashed up plastic case full of broken dvd+r's like it happened b4 off another website
