My friend would like me to softmod his box and upgrade the HD. I have a spare solderless modchip.
Here is what I am planning:
1. install the chip
2. add the drive
3. prepare/format the drive with Slayers
4. FTP over the exploit(UDE2)
5. boot from the original game(Splinter Cell)
6. install/configure UDE2
7. remove the chip
Will this work? It makes sense to me, but I have never done a mod of any sort before. This seems like a heck of alot easier then using xboxhdm.
Thanks for your input.

Let me update that a little.
1.1 boot Slayers, back up eprom and HD Key
6.1 lock new HD

That will work, but I would suggest that you research xboxhdm a little bit more. It really is a great, easy-to-use, tool.

looks good, I'm sure that will work. As long as you remember to lock it

That's the same thing I would have done if I had a modchip with me.

I agree that xboxhdm is a great tool, but it is rather involved, compared to just sticking a solderless chip on the box.
In fact I was all set to use xboxhdm until I bought a solderless chip.

Indeed. If you have the ability to use a chip to setup the drive it can save you a lot of hassle. Xbhdm is a great tool for people wanting to upgrade only with a pc.

Personally, I think Xboxhdm is pretty easy to do. All you need to do is put what you need in the right folders (self-explanatory), create the iso, burn to disk, reboot with it in, run build harddrive from scratch, then lock the drive. It's not so complicated (albeit a long precess).
