I'm looking at getting an x3 or an x2.6 to put in a box without a DVD drive. I know the 4981 x2.6 bios is editable in xbtool, which will let me disable the DVD drive check, and hence boot without a DVD drive installed.

Is there a way to disable to DVD Drive check (as well as autobooting default.xbe on the dvd if it's there) in the x3 bios?

Thanks,

Duck!

or, yes you can disable the dvd check in the X3 Config Live (I'm using 1959 bios)

you cant disable the dvd check in the x3 bios yet.

if you say you can, give me the menu hierarchy to access this setting in config live.

is there a config file that Config Live writes to?

Looked around in X3 ftp, but could not find anything.

EDIT: just heard form xecuter. It is not in the current Bios. But he said he will add to the next release if there are enough people who want.

ie - everyone post here that you want it

Ok, thanks for the info.... I didn't think I recalled it in the x3 live config (i installed one for a friend). I opened the newest bios with xbtool and it wouldn't let me edit anything but the led cycle.

(oh, and search pulls nothing up for "dvd check" or any related x3 search.)

This thread refers to something different that I was talking about. The thread is talking about the boot partition and executables portion of the bios. IE, when you turn on your machine with a disc in the drive, it boots the disc instead of booting the dash. Very annoying that you can't disable that.

What I'm wanting is actually disabling the dvd drive check (if you open xbtool, you'll see this option in the "toggles" portion.) This way, you don't need a DVD drive connected at ALL.

X3 bios is already enabled this option, just boot it up w/o the dvd drive and see, it's part of the debug mode and it comes disabled.

Ok, I'm looking at getting a MB and PS, don't need any drives 'cause I've already got a modded box and i'll upgrade the HD anyway. Just wanted to know if I should get a 2.6 or 3. Sounds like the x3'll work just fine

And one more thing, I know there used to be a site with the x3 config live menu structure available for browsing. I just can't find it. GRR! Any help?

I apologise for being too hasty before... the option isn't in the X3 config live, but in the X3 config section of Avalaunch's options.

Debug mode is disabled but there is a toggle for dvd drive check (enable/disable)

I'm not familiar with the avalaunch x3 config. Does this actually configure the x3 bios, because I don't understand how a dash can disable the dvd-drive check. This check is built into the bios to make sure a dvd-drive is connected.

I don't know any specifics but it does seem able to control some of the chips features.
