is it possible to take a HD out of your comp and make it a XB HD w/o losing all the files already on it??

Yes but you would have to clone your old HDD.
Don't ask me howto do this though

no, its not possible, you have to format the HD with the FATx file system, thus losing all your files

qhat exactly is it you are to save? there might be a way to keep a backup of it while you switch

I'm pretty sure that reformatting your HDD for the xbox will cause the original files to be erased. I mean, you are formatting the HDD!
