i'm installing an xbit for a friend. xbox v1.0, xbit v.1.5

the xbox keeps fragging.
i don't have the usb adaptor so i can't confirm that there are bioses on the chip.

from what i am reading.. . the reasons it can frag is because it is not aligned
properly or there is no bios to load. if i turn dipswitch 4 on, is it suppose to
disable the chip ? it still frags, so i'm guessing it is an alignment issue ?

should i try to desolder the LPC points, or keep trying to align the thing right ?

or should i not do anything until i got the usb adaptor to confirm that there is
a bios on the chip ?

one last thing. there was no screw with the chip.. . is there any reason why
i shouldn't use the screw that was already in the xbox ?

thanks alot

OK, you are installing a chip but you don't know if you even have a bios on it? Where did you get the chip? The screw is there because you need a spacer to properly align the chip, with the spacer the original screw will not fit. The modchip needs the USB adapter card to properly work for it has the controlling DIP switches.

Rule number one, have all parts before installing or it is like saying that you can't get you car running but you don't know if you have a motor...

PS it is not shipped with a bios, you must load one on.

he said there was another guy that was going to install it but didn't have time or something.. . the screw fits with the spacer, so it must be the screw that came with the xbit. i was told that the other guy already loaded two bioses onto the chip. so i guess i should just turn all the dipswitches off to make sure it is loading the first bios.. . although i don't know what the bios looks like so i don't know where it is looking to load dashboards at.. . dry.gif
i do have the part with the dipswitches.. . i just don'y have the usb adaptor the hooks up to the PC.. .

i'm now getting the xbox to boot up with the chip installed.
the Green LED on the chip [with the dip switched] is lit up.
but it is booting the MS bios.
can i be confident that the chip is installed correctly given the above things ?
i just need to get the USB adaptor to flash a bios right ? maybe ?

thanks.

i need it to be fragging because it is looking for a bios right ?

if installed correctly it should frag, but boot up the MS bios when
i flip the 4th dip switch right ?

Correct. If it FRAGs with stealth mode DISABLED, most likely there is no usable BIOS for the X-Box to "find". Maybe you should get your hands on the USB cable, download the X-B.I.T. software, and check your banks to make sure there is actually a BIOS installed.

Iff the green light is on on the chip, then the chip is installed correctly with the bios on the chip running. You are just getting the M$ dashboard becasue of the order that the new bios loads dashboards. It looks most likely for
1. evoxdash.xbe
2.unleashx.xbe
3. Other alternative dashes
4. msdash.xbe (M$ dash)

You should be able to turn on Stealth Mode now and have the M$ dash boot up, too.
