Hello All,
Ok, I have been through the whole tut section about 5 times and searched for anyone with my situation so now I open a new topic, if anyone can assist I would greatly appreciate it.
I have a V1.0 Box
Xecuter 2 Pro
Evox 2.4 Bios
RoadRunner BroadBand
(Assigns my computer an address, automatically obtain address)
Hub

I have tried just putting the reg. lan cable into the hub and having Xbox auto. establish assigned ip.
No Luck.

I have tried turning on the Static IP and matching it up with what's on my computer.
No Luck.

I have tried Using the values posted here for a static ip.
No Luck
With the above 2 I did edit the evox .ini file appropriately. and changed the computer to that IP but on both circumstances I could not establish conn.
and Computer's internet disconnected.

I have tried just putting a crossover cable between computer and xbox with no modem. static ip ... .
no luck.

so I am out of ideas, how do I get the ip address assigned to the xbox?

thanks

Piss off the router, get a cross over cable, connect direct to xbox from nic, use a static ip (make sure you save setting in xbox before progressing) remember to use user and password "xbox"... first check connection by using PING 192.168.0 XXX in dos to check connection...

Can I link to the xbox directly w/a crossover cable without having a internet connection through a second nic?

If so I have tried it and failed maybe it is my ip but I have read many many posts and the tutorials many times each just trying anything.

Little help?

Xbox - Lan Cable - Hub - Crossover Cable - Internet connection that assigns my comp. ip - win xp comp, know how to release and renew ip's know how to edit the evox.ini file what am I missing?

Thanks,
deathflamer
that is uber odd

OKay first thing if you use a hub...do not use a cross over cable.

Easiest way to do this is as follows.

Computer -> hub port 1
xbox -> hub port 2

hub uplink -> broadband modem

If your xbox ip is 192.168.1.3 subnet of 255.255.255.0 gateway of 192.168.1.1
Then your computer should be set as
ip 192.168.1.2 subnet of 255.255.255.0 gateway of 192.168.1.1

Make sure the firewall in WinXP is not running.
Make sure you are running no other firewall.

This setup WILL cause you ti loose connection to internet.
The only way to keep both is to go with a router that does NAT.

Use FLashFXP (love that prog)

To Set ip in XBOX go to system -> settings -

Static Ip set to Yes
Edit Network to Yes
Set ip
Subnet
and Gateway

Scroll down to bottom and select save and exit
reboot and try to connect with PC

Let me know how it works

Thank you for your suggestion although it didn't work. I currently have it connected to a normal lan cable to my hub, the hub is connected to my 2 computers, the x-box, and my cable modem. I run XP. My IP on my computer is set by the service provider (Road Runner). How do obtain an ip for the xbox, I have changed the settings in ini file to
Setup Network = no
use static ip= no I have also tried setting this to yes and setting up my comp. w/a static ip to match
. all that happens is my computer loses it's conn. to internet. sad.gif

Should I be putting zero's in the ip,sub,gateway values for it to obtain an ip itself?
All I have ever seen is No Link! and that is getting very rough.

thanks for any help.

You have said twice that you set up your xbox's I.P. to match your pc's I.P. You also said when you do this your computer loses it's connection to the internet. If you mean your computer's I.P. is 192.168.100.1 and you are setting your xbox's I.P. to 192.168.100.1 to "match" then that is exactly what your problem is. On a lan only 1 computer can have a specific I.P. Change your xbox's I.P. to 1 higher than your computer. For example, if your computer's i.p. was 192.168.100.1 then change your xbox to 192.168.100.2. This way both machines can be recognized on the same network. You set the subnet mast exactly the same as each other. If your computer's current subnet mask is. 255.255.255.0 then your xbox should be 255.255.255.0. If you want to ftp to your xbox while your computer is connected to the internet and you do not have a router you will more than likely encounter the problem of data transfers limited by the speed your cable modem's upstream is capped at. (If you are allowed enough cpes for your xbox to be on the roadrunner network.) If you are restricted to 1 cpe then you should be able to transfer fine. At any rate, set your default gateway on your xbox to your computer's I.P. address. This might save you a little time.

If you're on a hub/router...Turn static off. Let EvoX get the IP through DHCP. It will pick it up and show you it in the Network area, then match that into the part you can edit that gets saved into the .ini. Save and exit EvoX Settings, then reboot. Connect to the IP you just typed via FTP and you should be in.
