First of all, Happy holidays to you all, hope you had a good one.

Secondly, I asked for a couple of sub-forums, like I mentioned in one of the threads here. It will be "Skins and Tools" and another for "WIP Beta".

As for the WIP Beta forum, the current WIP testers are doing a tremendous job. We had some glitch but things like that just happens. I also recognize the fact that we can't all cover every possible scenario, configuration, and settings that varies from one xbox to another. So, it is sensible (to me at least) to let a wider audience give it a whirl first before releasing it to the public.

Actually, this is just one of the two reasons why I decided to head this way. The other is that, I'm making a career move in two to three months time. Spending the holiday away from your family is something I would rather not experience again. I was sent away to work on the 18th, this is why I still haven't uploaded the latest WIP. During that period, I expect to fix as much bug as I can and add more features as wrinkles get ironed out. After, I have to give my job a priority and updates will come in trickle, if any.

So, if you want to be a WIP tester, here's your chance. The only requirement is that, you should really know what you are doing and can recover from anything with eyes blindfolded . Oh, one more, whiners are not allowed to join . If you have the guts, knows how to report in a very concise manner, know every detail of your xbox, send an email to unleashx2003 @ google's mail. I may not reply immediately as I will process application by batches.

I had one more thing in mind, but I lost my train of thoughts.

No, I havent. Thanks for the nice invite but I am going to decline. I do not do that great of a job at bug reporting. I would feel terrible if I didn't find some bugs or if I had too much else to worry about whenever you released a WIP. I would love to see the WIPs and get to play around with them but I can wait patiently until you and your other chosen testers have deemed it ready for public release. I have been to unleashx.com but it needs a lot of updating.

W.I.P stands for Work-in-Progress.

W.I.P releases arent for public release but rather for a select group of people to bug bash the program/app/dash

Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks again for all the hard work. Now on to more WIP testing! Have you decided on a bug report format yet when testers report bugs so it will be easier for you to help locate the bug?

You can find UnleashX in the usual places which is also known as Xbins. You can find a tutorial for it in my signature just below. You will need mIRC and an FTP client. This is the only place that you will find it. You are not allowed to ask for (the illegally obtained) XDK compiled material on X-S. They are working on unleashx.com and it was just put upa week or 2 ago so try to understand. Also they may put the files on there but they are not yet so just use xbins.

EDIT: Perhaps James or Hyraulix you could move some of the more skin related topics to the skins forum. I know you have already moved some of them but could you just move the ones on the front page now. Thanks a lot.

I think you would be a good beta tester you post very informative answers here and seem to be here nearly everyday and know most of the inner workings of UnleashX. You are by far no noob so sign up for it

jonathan2007 you should really become a beta tester, you seem like you really kow what your talking about. As for me i just hope i make it as a beta tester, im convinced i can handle it, and i have about 4 days of free time still.

You will all receive an email when the first WIP build since the last public release is available, which should be sometime this week. Just finishing up on one function and it should be out.

This is a very nice format. These info should accompany any bug reports that are to be posted here.

No time for beta testing (Sorry). But I would like to say nice job on the dash and I’m really looking forward to getting back to the city so I can play online with it.

For the sake of brevity, I recommend we change this format a little bit. The bios version should tell you whether there is a G drive. For example 4981.06 = no G, 4983.67 = G. And of course you could surmise that if one had a 4979.67 bios but their drive was only 120gb, they must not have a G drive, correct? And stating the boot sequence AND the location of UnleashX is a bit superfluous. Here's what I propose:

Not trying to be rude, but does anyone ever take the time to read? It's very simple. If you want to become a WIP beta tester, here's the exact instructions!




Perhaps you'd have a better chance of becoming a beta tester if you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! One would most likely assume that if you can't follow the very BASIC DIRECTIONS of sending an email that most likely you wouldn't be able to follow the not so basic directions of reporting any bugs you run across in a clear and concise manner.

Sorry for the rant... I just feel like you're wasting unleashx's time making him read the the forums and expecting him to look up your email address and send you the beta testing info, when if you follow the directions, it's much simpler for everyone. Again, not trying to be a jerk... directions are there for the betterment of everyone involved.

You know you guys are right. I didn't read unleash's post. If you want to bash me cause i didn't read a post go ahead. But don't question wether i can test software or not. I just was a little excited and saw people posting there emails. So i went ahead and posted mine thinking nothing of it. But i love posts like this:

I have 1.0, 1.1 , 1.4 ( a ton) and a 1.6 machine, i can test it in very many scenarios
and beyond that, i find bugs often, its a gift

Two months, that's how long I've been away, whew, longest ever. Actually, I just came back a couple of weeks ago, only to find my PC not working due to bad memory. I've been in and out of the city, but it's over now. I finally found some time to fix my PC and now it's working again. So, I'm back.

I just did a quick check and found quite a few emails and some PMs dated as early as first week of January. Yeah, that's how long I've been offline. Haven't read any of them yet but I will the soonest time possible. Expect a reply towards mid to end of the week. Sorry if it seemed I ignored your emails but I just don't have the means to access them during my 6-week hiatus. It's not really a break but work related.

Anyways, I just uploaded a new WIP build. I was supposed to upload this one 2nd week of January but I didn't have the chance to do so. I did a quick recompile since I reinstalled everything on my PC and now, it's up.

No major change since the last WIP build. Most are fixes to the bugs already reported here. Fixes some problems with (yet again) both FTP client and server, still file I/O related.

New addition: Language setting. Actually, "String Resource file" is more fitting term than language setting. Instead of presenting a list of language file, the dash shows a file browser (xml file filtered) so the file can reside anywhere on any partition. The list of replaceable string is not yet complete and only covers some messages, file manager, game saves manager and settings screen. You can find the option under "System Settings". Note that only labels can be localized/changed and not the values, so a value of "Yes" can't be changed to "Si".

I moved the "Auto-Detect" from the "Network" section to "FTP Server". I thought I could use it for another module but I can't think of something yet besides the FTP server so I moved it there for now.

I finally found a use for the "Type" attribute in the Screen saver settings. Text, Movie (Video) and Path (Slideshow) value are now separated into their own section. So, you can put a different values for each and just tell the dash which one you wanna use.

There are quite a number of small changes and bug fixes that's incorporated in this build. I don't have the complete list but I'll post it soon.

It didn't quite went the way I envisioned it. I wasn't able to put out a build as I promised but things were out of my hand. I'll try my best to make up.

Well sweet. Glad to see you are back. I haven't tried out the WIP yet but I will take it for a whirl here in a bit. And to all beta testers please post that you are using beta 2 or whatever this is called so we don't confuse this and the first beta. Again thanks for the news James.

I certainly hope there is going to be a public release soon, with all the ftp fixes, cause right now, ftp is quite useless (more than half of the games I tried ftping failed, both between xboxes and between pc and xbox).

I realize this post of mine is close to 2 years since the original thread creation date, but UnleashX has always intrigued me. If I can help at all, I'd love to. An email has been sent from astaks_AT_gmail_DOT_com . I have two (soon to be three) xboxes. Both are 1.4 systems, and one is chipped with X3 CE, the other is SmartXX v3. My third xbox is going to be a 1.1, and I'm slimming it down. I havent decided whether i'm going to TSOP it or put a Xenium in it, but I'm leaning toward TSOP.
