Ok, I've never done softmodding before, but I understand the concept of signing encrypting and decrypting..I've heard of signing xbe's with audio, font, or habibi keys....Why is resigning needed? My only guess is because the public key in the bios changes (or gets changed), so the xbe would have to be resigned..with the correct private key..Or is this totally off?

Idk really know it is all kinda complicated. You don't have to sign stuff anymore. But I remember the days when you did and you had to use xbedump. Anywho if you wanna get your box softmodded get on xbins/the usual places and get a hold of Ltools. It is a gamesave exploit that will guide you (more like do it all for you) through the process of installing a permanent exploit such as UDE1/UDE2/UXE.

the habibi key is for signing xbes for use with gamesave exploits (like 007:AUF, Mechassault or Splinter Cell)
