Do you think it would be an issue what dash I was loading it from?
the joker
shouldn't be related as long as you know for sure all files got over.

LOL , I'll just check

I'll return in two years and report.
the joker
just set flashfxp to "resume all" and it'll skip all that is already there. There's 3-4 files that is "just weird" named, it's ok to skip those I think.

Ta, but I put the files on a UDF with nero and copied them across with xcommander.
Dont know how reliable this is however.
I wouldve Ftp'd em across but my connection has gone 'funny' of late.

Oh and I can lay my hands on the 3do version, so we can rip the movies. biggrin.gif
the joker
I've got the movies here zipped up - but I can't host it.
hollow
Okay, at least I get the movies. smile.gif

Still doesnt work, tried making an iso with craxtion and no joy.
the joker
you made both the saves and the teams dir under cfg ?
hollow
Is it save or saves?, ah this could be it.
the joker
*thinks*

cfg/save
cfg/teams
hollow
Oh it just takes a while to load. 'SLAP'
Im fine. biggrin.gif
the joker
niiiice =)

now unzip those movies and put it where it belongs wink.gif
I'm working on putting a complete iso with movies +++ onto some torrent, just need to figure out how to put up a seed.

-tj
zefrench
Are the movies copywriten and thus cannot post a link to them here ?
the joker
nope =) it's just a bit too big for my homepage hehe
TMaul
It seems to take a long time loading sometimes on my xbox as well but other times it starts up nice and quickly. Hopefully by the next release we will have zip/uqm datafile support working which might hopefully speed up, or at least smooth out the loading times a bit.

Also, I knew about the team/save directory problem at the weekend and even put a fix of sorts on the jokers source server but I have been offline the last few days and didn't even explain the problem to him when I was online. Apologies to TJ and everyone else who had problems. smile.gif

Back to bed for me as I have an evil cold.

Drilus
workin like a champ for me. ;]

aren't the movies hosted on sourceforge as well?
zefrench
in that case:

http://the************/details.php?id=3335075

has a torrent of the pc versions which has every package as well as the movies package.

Enjoye

umm edit it seems I cannot link to that site: t he p i r a t e b a y . o r g

I've recruited my spathi and I'm exploiting the universe.
Thanks again to all involved.
zefrench
Is it possible to get a copy of the source so that I can modify the savegame path so that I can play UQM from DVD ? ATM it is unable to save as it tries to save to the DVD drive.

Nunim
Ok, I deleted what I downloaded earlier, made my xIso in Qwix, Turbo FTPd it over and it plays great. Thanks for this release, hopefully next time you guys can enable it to view compressed files shrinking the game size.
the joker
We're gonna make the xbox sources available quite soon, we just want to try to finish it up first. As it's now it's in a working condition, but not as good as we'd like it to be, obviously.

Save-dir being one of the things we'd like to fix, as it seems to want to lock to cfg\save instead of t: or u: which is the default save drives on the xbox that we tried to force it to.

Tmaul also have been tweaking for a much better keys.cfg, where A and B is switched, much better analog control and a few other fixes, got a link to it mate ? smile.gif

-TJ

*edit*
And I think, Tmaul, that we can get around this problem by simply creating the dir where it just exit()'s for not finding the dir... Think I saw where it was when I debugged it smile.gif

Updated keys.cfg can be downloaded here but I am not too sure that its any different than the one thats in the installer : http://www.kja.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/keys.cfg

TJ: And it makes sense about creating dir where the exit()s are. If I can make my brain work today I will have a look at it, unless you beat me to it. smile.gif

oki, the movies are put up and the bat-file has been changed so it'll download the movies as well. For the people that know stuff, it's easy to just look into the bat-file and pull out the parts that involves the movies.

SC2 will autodetect it and play it back.

I just checked the bat file on your page and I don't see anything about the movies in the bat file. Did the wrong one get put up or did I miss something?
Likklebaer
So is this an official release yet or is what's being posted here for testing purposes?
the joker
just testing, but the result should work just fine =) Reuploaded the builder, try now =)

I got the latest install package, and I had the folders with the default.xbe etc... what I did then was I used qwix to make an iso out of the files, then I used qwix to transfer the 'x iso' to my xbox. However, qwix gave me illegal filename errors for these 4 files.

lascap.0.Y=200.png in content\\lastbat folder
activity.5.SAFEX=16.png in content\\lbm folder
playmenu.60.SAFEX=16.png in content\\lbm folder
playmenu.63.SAFEX=16.png in conent\\lbm folder

I am assuming the equal sign is to blame, is this an error on my end? I just used the installer, everything went fine, and I am pretty familiar with using qwix. Not sure if any of you noticed this error or not since I didn't see any mention of it.
Thanks
Ed_209

update: I renamed the files by just getting rid of the equal signs, they probably won't be recognized now, but the game still works fine so far... one slight "bug" if you want to call it that...when you go into "settings" while in-game, and you select "captain"...the controls lock up...I guess it is prompting for a keyboard input or something. I tried hitting all of the buttons to back out of it, but wouldn't work. If you can just map a button to cancel out of keyboard prompts etc, and fix the problems with the filenames mentioned above, then this release should be solid.

outstanding job though! cool.gif
the joker
yea, selecting captain will expect keyboard input smile.gif

regarding the files, I've just ignored them so far, I think they aren't needed as I haven't found any mentioning of them in any source. Noone has either said anything about anything not working so no need to fix =)

Messier27
Thanks for doing this...

I D/Ld the .xbe and unpacked the contents files, and copied them to my xbox dev kit, but I'm getting a "An error occurred loading an Xbox executable" message.

Additionally the default.xbe shows up with no name, and no icon.

any help?

thanks!
R
the joker
...and there was no error in downloading the xbe ? It worked for really many others =)

I must be special, sigh.

I downloaded it 3 times, with Firefox, from:

http://www.crusaders.no/~joker/sc2/

[ ] default.xbe 06-Jun-2005 22:19 1.4M

No errors, and it shows as 1.35MB on the Xbox, but always gives an xbe error which I try to run it. blink.gif

I put it in

E:\StarControlII\default.xbe
E:\StarControlII\cfg
E:\StarControlII\content

(this turns into D: when run from the DevKit XDK Launcher)

weird, huh?

thanks,
R

Drilus
i get the same thing. it doesn't want to launch anything. really strange because it was working before. the new xbe also doesn't have a name, just blank.
TMaul
I'll check it out tomorrow. I am still not 100% satisfied with the way save games and config files are handled and it wouldn't surprise me if they are involved with the problem on your xbox in some way.

Out of interest are there any other people having problems with the very latest version?

EDIT: Or to put it another way, does the very latest version work for anyone? smile.gif
XaRaNn
too HOT

im getting this right now

cant believe you didnt create more hype for this, just some talking in a thread thats not yours wink.gif

now ill have to check homebrew forums everyday again

seriously, this deserves a xs frontpage news, WOW
Twiin
This is seriously incredible, and deserves much more press than it's getting. Once the port is 'final', I will do everything I can to make sure every geek and gamer in the world knows that it is here.

...

On a technical level, is it possible to use any of the command line options, perhaps in a .cfg file? Such as, turning off the 3DO remixed music and having the original music play? Or is all of that compiled in the .xbe?

Thats all complied into the xbe. If I can figure out why the config stuff is not working I will see if its possible to hook up a basic ini file that contains any settings. The Joker might have already fixed the config problem but I can't seem to connect to irc to check. sad.gif

I just have to say:

BOOOYAAAH!!!!!!

You guys are awesome! This is one of the finest games ever to have been created. It has a great storyline, and it simply fun to play!

Thank you so much for your gift to the community.
the joker
gonna look into it in a couple days, is that the xbe that the Bat-file downloads ? I'm a bit overworked atm, but in a couple days I'm on "vacation" from work.

hmm, aaah... maybe I forgot to patch it so it works on evox-bioses ? That could be it. I'll try to put up a patched xbe there.

*edit*
Yea, the guys that made this game are natural geniouses. The storyline and the gameplay have never ever seen it's equal. And the hilarious alien races are just so much fun to mess with biggrin.gif

Any news on releasing the source code ?
XaRaNn
alright i barely remember the 3do version (only saw a buddy play it ages ago)

but when your done mining a planet, is it normal that when you go back the minerals are also back? or is this a bug in the xbox version

because once you find one of those planets filled with exotics its pretty much done and infinite RU for you
the joker
what solar system and what planet/moon ? haven't seen any bugs so far, but I have the win32 version to check if it bugs there too.

Yes, sources will be out when we feel it's done smile.gif

XaRaNn
every planet ive tryed so far

you mine it clean, go to navigate to leave, turn around and come back, and all the minerals are back (same position)

also id like to know if its possible to use the remixed music found at
http://www.medievalfuture.com/precursors/
with the xbox port
i think with the pc one you had to use a command line switch, and somebody mentionned you cant (yet) with the port. would jus like to get a final word on this

anyway ive been playing for a while now, and i havent encountered any other problems

a very cool feature would be screen resize for overscan compensation tho, i can barely see the names of the planets / coordinates in the starmap because of it
Mexpac
First let me tell that this game is awesome, it is still one of my favorites and this was the only reason I wished for a 3DO Emulator at some point. (no reason for it anymore)

Some bugs I found are that in Melee, both players control the same ship in VS...
And the other one is that I did not encountered Fwifo at pluto (have not played farter in the game).

I know it will probably be Imposible, but, will network support be added to Melee at some point? biggrin.gif

Anyways thanks for this great port to the Xbox.

Hmmm, I will take a look at the melee VS problem. I am 99% sure it was working ok at one point.

As for network support in melee mode, that would be the most awesome thing I can think of but it won't happen until UQM has network support, and even then I have no idea if they are even going to consider network support.

EDIT: And thanks for the bug report. smile.gif

Any chances of getting the code? I want to insure it does not get lost and all the hard work done by the team has to be redone. Rolling the changes back into the mainstream code is what I would like to look at,
DCarnage
A couple of days ago I found the Ur-Quan Masters port of the 3DO version and freaked out! Especially at the fact that the source code was released. So yesterday I thought about getting a team together to port it to XBox. But today I found this thread and I'm jumping for joy at the moment!!!

Thank you very much for porting sc2 to XBox. Keep up the great work!
LESTAT
i hate to be the negative one here but for the love of pete what is the point of this game ?

is it rpg is it shooter do you farm the planets for minerals? wth ?

i mean i know its aport from a really old game and if i read correctly its a 3do game ?
omg wth was EVER good on 3do ?

Mexpac
Lestat, your post is a good example of nonsense produced by ignorance...

SC2 is a great game on its genre. Great storiline, adictive and fun to play.

The first version of Star Control II was on the PC. The 3DO version came later. The 3DO version had speech and other cool stuff that not many PC games had back then. This port has the speech from the 3DO version but is a bit closer to the PC version of the game, gameplay wise.

Here is short but good review type thing from gamespot

As you can see its in their greatest games of all time section, where it should be. smile.gif

They don't mention deadbabies but i'm sure its not as addictive as Star Control 2.
Not many games are. tongue.gif
