I have a friend who had his xbox modded with a x2.3 lite and then one day I believe his HDD just crapped out. He doesn't have the orginal stock drive and I believe his modchip is malfunctioning because he jsut bought a new drive and before it bots Evox from the cd is goes to error 16 (this makes me believe the bios on the chip isn't loading properly). Any ideas on how to TSOP it without the orginal HDD?

bios is fine, just old, your getting error 16 because the system clock is not set, and sicne its a black HD the MS dashbaord cant be laoded to set the clock
use another xbox (unlocked) HD to set the system clock, then update the bios and try again
you can also hotswap the chip to flash a new bios or use an external programmer

That makes now... thank you for the response. I will try it out as soon as I find a new HDD to put into it.
