have wireless broadband (512k) over a wide area network
basically we have very bad pings and as such probs with kai and live

is there any way that we could use system link over the wan as there is now a few people looking to play xbox on the network

just use kai and start a private room , that IS xbox over WAN .. have all your friends join the same room and you won't have lag because your just playing against each other ..
