I have a thompson drive, and a backed up movie on a Memorex DVD+R 8x. The xbox won't read this disc, what is the problem? It still reads game discs so I don't think it's a problem with the lense. If I got a samsung drive, would it read these types of discs? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thomson's usually have trouble with DVD+R. DVD-R usually works. Samsung generally reads just about everything.

Assuming you have the DVd kit or DVDX2 or whatever to play back the DVD movie. then either you have a bad disc, a laser that does not like the disc (try another brand) or you backed up the movie wrong (try it in another box)
DVD+R won't marry the Samsung drive without alteration of the booktype before burning

My samsung and thompson will not read DVD+R's without bitsetting. With bitsetting they read fine.

Cool thanks, do you use another program to do bittsetting or is it built into the burning software?

My samsung reads DVD+R's. Is mine the only one? It reads burned movies and games better than the original ones.

You are not the only one. My Samsung reads DVD+R's just beautifully.

Is it possible that the speed at which the dvd was written affects whether or not the xbox can read it? All of the dvd+r's I have tried were written at 8x.

That could be a problem. In future efforts it is best to burn no higher than 4x for Xbox. Thing about dvd+r is a 50/50 shot. some read and some don't I have seen one samsung say no to the exact same disc another samsung says yes to. So in my opinion it's a 50/50 shot. For best results just grab -r.

I use Nero and bitsetting shows up under the burn tab as a box to check off. Not all writers use bitsetting, look yours up at videohelp. The option also won't show up until the disc is inserted in the burner.

DVD+R burned in NECND1000A, 1100A 1300A work fine in samsung drives without any messing in any software. The book type is by default DVD-Rom with these
RockMancuso
The DVD+R's that have been working in my Samsung were burned at 2.4x using Nero.

My Thomson reads +Rs just fine without bitsetting. I originally started out using +R, but I quickly switched to -R after I found out that only certain drives could use +R. I wanted to make sure my discs would work for my friends with modded XBoxs too.
