I accedently flashed the wrong bios on my spiderchip I put cromwell linux on it and I used ozx flash to reflash the chip with evox plus m8 16 and it goes through the process of flashing but when I turn the xbox back on it still has cromwell linux on it so my question is can I flash the spiderchip multiple times or can I only flash it once
SEViN
I'm pretty sure you can flash it as much as you want.
Chancer
You can re-flash as many times as you like but usually once is enough.

I havent used that chip before, but i have always found that reflashing using Slayers evoX Installer 2.6 is the most hassle free approach unless you are looking for a specific bios rather than the evoX or X2 bios versions included. Give it a crack.

And to confirm -> you can reflash as often as you like, but i wouldnt be doing it weekly. Once is normally fine.
JWJ
slayers evox auto installer 2.6 would that work for cromwell linux
JWJ
I can't seem to find slayers evox auto installer 2.6 final would v2.5 work the same
Chancer
Cromwell will not boot Slayers Discs at all. I quoted in another thread that with the Linux version of Cromwell a programmer may be the end ersult. The reason I don't usually tell people to use OZXFLash is because its not always 100 percent and often does not work.
However I do feel in your case you have not used it correctly. If it hasd flashed evoxM8 on to the chip then you would not stilll have Cromwell on. If the flash was unsuccesful you would have got a message on the screen saying halting but you seem to indicate that the flash worked. Can you tell us more in detail how you used the program and what happened during the flash. If this does not work you do need a programmer.
JWJ
well I followed the tutorial I found I just put ozx on a dvd then I put it in my dvd drive then after a few minutes the dvd drive opens automaticly and it said to put my bios disc in so I do then it says bios.bin found then it says flashing in progress so dvd drive opens again thn it powers off and I turn it back on and there is the all familier cromwell manI hope I don't need a programmer
Chancer
What bios did you put on your bios disc because before it flashes the chip it earses it so the only way cromwell is going to be written back on is if its on the bios disc.
Is it exactly the same Linux cromwell or is it flash bios?
JWJ
well I put evox m8plus_16 on the bios disc since I have a 1.6 xbox
Chancer
Well either the flash did not even work at all or the bios you have on your pc labelled M8_16 is not what you think it is.
I would obtain another copy of the bios and re-flash the chip. watch very carefully what happens and what it says on screen as you do it.

ok I did as you suggested and it still wont work I got m8 plus_16 from a completly different place
a few qoestions
1.are you sure slayers wont work
2.is there any way to put a dashboard on the chip
3.what is the reason for cromwell linux can I make it play backups
4.do I need a programmer pop.gif
elserpiente
1. Slayers would probably work but is not really necessary
2. no, only bios' go on the chip which then load a dashboard from the hard drive.
3. cromwell is used because it uses no copywrited code that would make it illegal to distribute. the only way to play backups is to use a bios such as evox, xecuter, ect...
4. if you cannot flash your chip via software (which you should be able to) then your next option will be to get a programmer
ombi
are you re-naming the bios file m8_16plus.bin to bios.bin if so there is another way of flashing the chip with out a programer using a software hack

Chancer are you there ph34r.gif

How many times Slayers will NOT work on a box running a non hacked bios such as Linux/Cromwell

How??

You need to put down exactly what are you are doing because you keep saying tried it , did not work. I need to know chapter and verse including how you made the bios disc? what you named the files? what eaxactly it says on the screen when you go through the flash procedure. What comes up on the screen before you flash it.
If you are sure the bios is M*.16 then the flash is not working because if it was the Cromwell would be erased. List what the screen says when you boot and everything else.
JWJ
Step 1 putting bios on a dvd

first I downloaded evox m8plus_16 then renamed it bios.bin and then I made a 46mb dummy file and made an iso out of it with ultra iso and burned it to a dvd-r with nero 6

Step 2 putting ozx flash onto a dvd

well this was easy I just downloaded it and it was already in iso format so all I had to do was burn it to a dvd using nero 6

Step 3 flashing my spiderchip

first I turn on my xbox then I see the all familier cromwel/linux bios screen an I click on the cd button and it opens automaticly and says insert disc and press A so I put ozx flash in and press A and it loads ozx flash with no problem (its impossible to write exactly what this says because it happens so fast but I'll write what I can remember) then it says the intro and it says dvd tray will open in 30 seconds then it opens in 30 seconds and I insert my bios disc then it says dvd tray will close in 1 minute and it does then I wait 30 seconds while the dvd drive initializes and then it says bios, bin found please wait while you're chip is being flashed then it says wait 30 seconds for you're dvd tray will open and you take out the bios disc and I do then it says you're xbox will power down in 30 seconds at wich time you can turn on you're xbox and it turns off and I turn it back on and same old cromwell/linux bios

I hope you can help Chancer if there is anything specific you need to know to make this work let me know biggrin.gif
JWJ
bump
chancer I'm just making sure when you make you're sweep it includes me tongue.gif
Chancer
The only 2 possibilities are burning the bios disc as an iso. Just burn this as a regular data disc with your M8.16 as bios.bin in the root of the disc and your dummy named xyzz or whatever. Make sure your bios.bin is 256k and definetely don't convert the disk to an iso just burn as a data disk in nero.
The other posibility is that the Flash Rom type in the spider is not supported . The readme that comes with the program states the supported types. If this is the case the program would go through all the procedure but not erase or fllash the chip.
If the problem is the second one then you are out of options other than getting an aladdin or X2 programmer.
Pity you don't live in the uK i could have flashed it with a programmer and mailed it back to you.
JWJ
Well I did as you recommended with the data disc and still no success so I need to use a programmer is there anyone you know the US I can mail my chip to so they can put a m8 bios on it I'm willing to pay please help thanks Chancer
Chancer
you could try PM the dustycelt or networkboy. anyone that can do this in the US that has an Aladdin or X2 programmer come on give the guy a hand
JWJ
Ok Chancer I wrote both those guys thanx for the reccomendations cool.gif
networkBoy
I've never used a spiderchip, but I'll give it a go.
Just send me the chip along with a padded return pouch (pre-stamped) and I'll doo it for free.
