will a 250 gig hard drive over heat anyfaster or more likely to than a stock or 40 gig hard drive?rpm is 7200. bad idea to get one? or is it worth it with no worries?
jameswalter
No...I have had one for a few years and have no problems.

ok mine would be in a bookshelf.. is that bad? would it overheat anyfaster? should i put a next to it, or not have it in teh bookshelf at all? or no worries?

HD size has nothing to do with heat

contrary to popular belief, rpm has little to do with heat

it really comes down to teh drive itself, some models produce far less heat than others, ive seen many 7200rpm drives that run cooler then the stock 5400s

personally i have a maxtor 250 in my xbox, it runs rather hot, but doesnt seem to cause any problems (my temps usually hover between 145 and 150 F)

Yea hdd size really doesnt have affect on heating but if its on your bookshelf just make sure there is lots of ventelation room. Also might want to think of doing a HDD fan mod and an 80mm fan mod. They are both in the XS tuts section.

I've heard Western Digital HDs run hotter than most others. That's what i have (160 gig), and it does seem to be pretty hot. Luckily i don'y play for extended periods so it hasn't been a problem.

i hav a western digital and 80mm fan mod the drive runs at about 100 degrees f after a few hours of play
