I own a 200 gig hard drive that I got on eBay everything works thats fine. I want to tranfer my files to my friends. My question is that if I back-up the hard drive to my PC can I simply plug in the new hard drive and FTP the files back. Does it automatically create the partions (C:,D:,etc) or does that have to be manually.

You need to format the new hard drive. It will be faster if you transfer files from xbox to xbox. Read this.
