Hey i am new at all of this.. but this is my problem

ok i got my modded box two days ago... i have been playing it like crazy... i have a 250gb western digital hard drive with a xecuter2.6 pro chip in it... now i tried to start my x-box this morning and it is making a weird sound that is coming from the har drive... kinda like an off and on scratching sound... and it will not get past the x-box screen that say Evox at the top and it will go to a screen that says call customer support and gives me the number 7 in the top left corner... sometimes it will go on to the avalaunch screen but it will just freeze up and not get past their little symbol... now if im correct the number 7 on that one screen meens over heating problem so i unplugged everything for a day and let it cool completley down and i plugged it back up and tried to start it again and it is still making that scratchy sound and goes to that screen... WHAT DO I DO????? i hope i havnt fried my hard drive by playing too much... please help

Check the Drives Jumper, make sure its in CS (Cable Select) position. This can also happen if there is a loose connection on the IDE ribbon, or if the drive is physically failing.

7 - kernel - HDD timeout
[Details]

Most of the times, the IDE cable is not properly connected when you see this error. Please reattach the ide cable.
Not only to the harddisk drive but also to the dvd drive. ALso try to reconnect the ide cable to the motherboard.
Press pretty hard so it goes all the way in. Make sure it is seated straight and proper in the drives and the motherboard.
If you still have an error 7. Try another ide cable. If that won't work try another harddisk. If there is still no go, try to
set the jumpers on the rearside of the harddisk drive. Set it to master or cable select. If still no succes,
good luck and sell your xbox to me

i have checked and the riddon wire is connected and the other wires are all connected...

hmm.....have you tried dropping it on the ground lately ?? that usually kills any noise.

or maybe your mouse inside the hard drive is getting tired too quickly and needs more cheese to spin the wheel that's connected to the fan.

IDE cable is the grey ribbon - about an inch and a half wide - connects your motherboard to your DVD drive and hard drive

ok that ribbon... got ya... ill chek it again... but when i try to start it with the lid off i can hear that sound comping from inside the hard drive... and its like off and on... if this makes any since if the sound was 1's and no sound is 2's it would be like... 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 haha pretty screwy explanation but hope it helps
