Hey all. Ive been looking for neat mod chips for some time and today my friend told me that he bought 2-3 mod chips called "Duo X2" and im just wondering if these are as good as he says.

He claims that these should be very new and one of the best chips at the market.
True?

Im also wondering if its worth the price, he takes around 85$ to put it in my xbox, but then he will do all the hardware and software stuff aswell (u know, programs, bios modding etc)

if its a mate why aint he doing it free?

duox 2 are good chips but very cheap to buy. dont let him rip u of.

Hehe okey... Before installing these chips, is there any thing i need to think about. I mean, my xbox is 1 and a half year old, can i be sure that the Duo X2 will work on my bios?

And is it anything else i need to think of?

Yes, DuoX 2 is quite cheap, almost as cheap as Aladdin XT 4064. About US$11 or less in bulk (see www.robotpig.com or www.divineo.cn).

I talked to him and he's able to negociate about the price (wich makes me happy) but he also said that he can get many other chips if i want something else (but that will ofcourse increase the mod price, since ill pay for the chip aswell)

stick with duo mate., it will do everything u want and wont cost u the earth.

thats right. as i said, unles you want really advanced function, then just stay with teh duo. its a good chip.
but any way its the bios that is loaded on the chip that matters.
so try nd get the price right down (he's ripping you off at that price), and go with the duo

Hmm... Which BIOS should i use (its modded with a DuoX2 now, costed me 35$ for the chip, MOD included =D)

My mate said he will install Unleashed or something for me... he said its like EvoX but a bit cooler... should i let him install that?

As for the dash have a look at them all and see which is your personal pref.

I've been using evox m8 (1.0-1.5) and m8+ (1.6-1.6b) with duox 2, with good results.

Good to read the positive feedback on the DuoX2 chip.
I found one on a Norwegian site (where I'm from) and it costs 295 kroners. That's about $44 right now. And yes, stuff IS expensive in Norway and it is the cheapest chip I've found without ordering outside Norway. Then the postage and packaging would kill me hehehehe.

Now I just gotta get that darn unlocked drive locked again

Anyone know how I can lock again when I can't boot my Xbox? Only get the error 5 which is because I unlocked the drive and I didn't really know what I was doing

well it has to be done in your xbox sooooo....

nah thats ok. it all depends on wheter it comes load with a legal (cromwell) bios, or an illegal (hacked) bios. if teh first one, then yes, you will need the programmer. with a bit of luck, it will come pre loaded with hack bios, and you will be fine

The bios banks on them are 512K each. there are 2 versions of this chip the white edition which comes with Cromweel flash bios and linux bios. The blue edition which comes with M8+.16 on bank 1 and a version 1-1.5 compatible bios on Bank 0

Yes thats the Blue one. which means it has a hacked bios on each bank already and will work with your unlocked drive.

Why don't you order from like Divineo.net, they ship worlwide (I think even Norway ) and the chips are $16(if you just buy one). Why don't you want to order outside of Norway?

Great chips by the way.But if you an xbox version 1.0-1.5 I wouild still go for an Aladdin chip

ModdingManiac, it isn't the purchase price that is important. But if I buy that at $16 I will have to pay ALOT of postage. Trust me, Norway is crazy when it comes to taxes and stuff. Why do you think we're (they) such are rich country? hehehe

I have ordered the DuoX2 chip now. Should be here by monday or tuesday the latest.

Anyways, I found a tutorial on Xbox-scene that I followed 100% to the teeth. I found the HD password in a backup file I made yesterday when I was messing with some dashboard. Anyways, I made the bootdisk, copied the three files needed, hooked up the Xbox drive and did as the tutorial said. Everything seemed to go fine, it said Done! when I entered the pass and I thought I'd done it. But when I put it back in the Xbox I now get an error 6 which means it can't UNLOCK the drive.

According to the tutorial the program would give me an error if I entered the wrong pass, and I printed the pass on a paper which I checked several times and cannot imagine that I entered it incorrectly. So, now the question is, is there anything I can do this weekend to get it running? Or will I have to wait for the chip? AND.... will it now work with the chip? Or will I have to format the drive first like adding a new drive?

I got it running again.
According to the tutorial I had to remove all the : and zeros which I did. But it didn't say that I had to remove the trailing zeros only, not leading.
Anyways, I unlocked the drive again using the new password I made for it, then I re-locked it with the original password. Now it's working like a charm again.

I bought a new Seagate Baracude 120 GB 8 mb cache harddrive today. So when the DuoX2 arrives I'm ready for the grand Xbox experience

Anyone has any quick and important tips I need when installing the new drive after the box has the new chip installed?

1) you may want a bigger hdd then that. i had a 120gb drive, but now i have a 200 and an 80. just a thought.

2) i think you will need something to format ect the new hard drive. i reccomend you get a copy of unleashx, burn it to a disc (that your xbox can read). when you install teh new hdd, boot it up with this disc in, and it will auto detect the new drive, format it, and copy over all the original files the the xbox needs.

Well I had a memory module for my PC that was broken and the shop didn't have a replacement module so I just took a drive instead hehehe

Anyways, I've made a post here to ask experienced users for help on installing the chip, preparing the drive etc. Feedback and suggestions would be great, and maybe someone could make the info there into a tutorial for beginners if the thread gets enough posts.

I live in Norway too, and I order from www.eurasia.nu. $15 for the DuoX2, and $5 for shipping worldwide. No tax or VAT. Takes about 9 days from Thailand to Norway.
Less than half the price You get them for at home.

My chip didn't arrive today. That pissed me off abit. So it should be here for sure tomorrow.
Got some downloads from Modnet with an iso and a new bios I am supposed to use when I get it installed. Since it has a Linux bios installed I have to update the bios in order to get my dashboard installed. Great service from Modnet, that is for sure.

which points shouldI focus my attention if my duox2 led isn't even flashing?

BT point is waht enables the chip. make sure its ok and the chip has power on pin 9 (G)
