i just in stalled a x-bit but it looks for the hard drive does the harddrive has to be locked

No, not unelss you want to play xbox live.

Yes, it needs to be locked if you are booting from the original bios, or if you haven't flashed your X-B.I.T. with a bios. If you have anything other than Xbox v1.6 or 1.6B, then flash it with the Xecuter2 bios. If you are using a HDD that is 250 gb or smaller then use X2_4981.06. You can lock and unlock you HDD using ConfigMagic.
