I actually got grounded and banned from modding my xbox form my dad. yup i did. the story goes like this. i was getting ready to spray on my second coat on my box and was heating my spray can in BOILING water, (i know it should be warm water, but leaving it in boiling water i get better results). anyway i was warming my can, and my dad was standing right there, when POP my can from the bottom popped because of such high pressure. it didnt explode but that is what my dad thought, so i got this loong ass lecture from him about crap and well now i cant mod, HE BANNED ME. but i have to finish my box. sad.gif

the can that did this all to me.( i like the colour thought)

waqas
yup ive done that one before, burnt my sofa with the soldering iron
wicket_lfe
wow, ur lucky. If my kid put spray paint in boiling water, i woulda thrown the xbox out and smacked him around. The soldering iron I would let go. but wow. I say you got off easy. tongue.gif
dbdlowrider
lol i am glad my mom and dad dont watch me that much i have burned like 40 holes in my carpet only thing that get pissed at is when it cold out side and i spray paint in side LOL i know know but i never heard of heating the bottle i used testor paint from wal-mart should i heat that bottle
thewickedjester
wow, that sucks. ive been told i cant mod anymore xboxs just because im "throwing my money away". but i dont listen, so it never really stops me tongue.gif
waqas
lol, yea i wish i could not listen and keep doing it but id get kicked out of the house, lol,. they go to me find another hobby, im like F u man(didnt realy swear) , i like doin this, i wont listen to you this time. so i got a slap on my face.

I'd say it's pretty stupid (no offense) to BOIL a spraycan which is under pressure... warming it up slightly is ok I guess, but boiling ist just dangerous...

Yeah you can be glad you got away with it that easy

yea i understand what you mean. it is pretty dam stupid, but i dont really care. i normally do it in the shed and go away. but the paint can i use it really strong
The*galloping*zebra
Just mod when your parents are out or at work, If im every stopped from doing anything I just do it anyway...
Maverick0984
a raise in temperature, raises pressure, the pressure inside a spray can is already severeal times higher than that of atmospheric pressure....you should never ever do that...wow
MusashiX2
i was told to not mod until i show proof of improvment on my grades. i failed two classes last semester because i'm a fucking idiot. i missed like 5 Soc. classes and fucked up my film class. now i'm really paying for it (literally, i gotta pay to retake the damn Soc. class and my modding is on a short hiatus). IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS!!! because there is stuff i am not too far away from doing!!! AHHH!! WHY AM I SO STUPID?!?!

btw, aren't you lucky you didn't get paint everywhere when the can popped?
iforgotmyname
my dad didnt want me to mod anymore when i went to grab something wile soddering and grabed the end of the iron. ph34r.gif

it didnt really pop. if you look at the pic its only the bottom part, whcih should be curved inwards that popped out. well im lucky that the can didnt explode. biggrin.gif

btw, my parents went out and i finished painting my xbox, hahahah muhaha.gif

and they will never know, until they actually see it dry.gif
dougMod
that sucks. nice looking case top beerchug.gif

Yeah you're lucky. I remember my pyro days when I threw WD-40 cans in a flame pit and about 3 minutes later kaboom (kinda looks like a mini nuke smile.gif )

itsmee129
your a crack whor, why would boil a spray paint can?
-={Nexus}=-
ya dood, i dont' understand

what does boiling do for your paint spray that shaking doesn't

Yikes... i'd shoot you if you were my kid

smile.gif

no offense
TWIZZLER
lol that sucks

well boiling the can( actually you should WARM it not BOIL it) anyway boiling it pressurises the can a lot more, thus forcing the paint out harder and it comes out as a finer mist. try it one day you will get noticably better results.
BUT remeber dont do what i did WARM the can in WARM water. NOT BOIL.
anyhoo im going to carry on boiling it
brihoo2k
You need to mod your parents. That way they'll be more accepting of your modding lol
Samulayo
no offence, but shouldn't this be in the dump or something as it doesnt really have much to do with hardware modding, just you being a fool
wongtong2g
stuff like this makes me happy that I'm in college
psychomonkey
If you look on the side of the bottle of the spray paint it will say "Do not exceed Temperatures of 120ºF." Boiling water is hotter then that.

Your lucky a ban is all you got, my dad would beat the shit out of me with a belt for being that stupid.

On that note, the only thing I've ever done while modding is I melted the side of a control stick on the controller. It still functions perfectly, it's just a cosmnetic flaw. I do all my modding on an old table under well light conditions, and I take my sweet ass time.
thecheat
i usually tend to do more damage to myself that to my surroundings. ive had alot of soldering "accidents". and one time i accidentally touched one of the BLADES of the stock fan going at 12v, yea it cut me up prty bad. anyways most of the stuff i do would scare tha hell out of my parents
TWIZZLER
Try to do your modding away from them like in your room!!
waqas
yea, i think ill have to start doing my modding where my parents arnt. with them around i just can concentrate. ive had a few accidents my self, burnt my self with a soldering iron plenty of times, dropped a fckuing X-acto knife on my foot, it went straight in, really deep cut, and a whole lot of other stuff, lol
shank69xo
Damn, I know how F ups like that go.

I burned the hell out an antique dresser, the carpet, my desk, my other desk, and my leather desk chair.

I tryed spray painting in my room last winter with all the windows opened. That didnt go to well. Overspray everywhere.

Not to metion the smell from burning flux and solder while my wife trys sleeping, or has a headache.

Luckily for me, No One Can BAN me. Maybe throw me out, but the house better be on fire first.

Good luck getting your XBOX done.
g0df4th3r
i burnt my carpet too. My mom said i was a verybad boy for not paying attention... heres a pic:

If i had burnt myself with an iron my parents would probably laugh lol.

Or supervise me everytime i gotta solder, lets hope it all goes well.

Why not just put the can in the mircowave, or even the oven? Fucking moron. tongue.gif Anyway, dont listen to them. My parents actually paid me to mod my xbox. Right now I have 4 modded box's of my own, and 3 others in the house. Its a really great learning experience if you ask me. You learn to solder, you learn what a bios does, not only how to flash one, how to burn image's how to use linux (if you want taht is) how to troubleshoot, just alot of really good qualities. And Right now it is helpgin my in my final for my IT Tech class. I have a computer set up in my closet along with 2 xbox's one running linux as a server and one running xbox media player or center, whatever one is still being developed. And the pc is running windows server 2003, I also have my computer running win xp pro, my laptop running win xp home on a wireless connection, my printer attached to a print server, my ps2, my moms computer running xp home, my dads comp running xp pro, and my sis's comp running win 2k (hah i took off xp home and put 2k on there just for a variation). I have all that set up through different routers and hubs. You learn alot when you mod, i have everything on different segments of my network. It took me forever to get everything set up, but now I have users on my server, and I can get in through RAS and connecto to each of my xbox's from my friends house. My network is awesome smile.gif

Please don't put a metal can full of flamable liquid in the microwave! Spark...BOOM iamwithstupid.gif

I'd be banned from the house If my wife knew how much $ I've spent on Xbox stuff the last few months. unsure.gif

You and me both
revengeismyfury
tongue.gif Lol some of you are crazy.

Ive burnt my carpet about 3 times some cuts on my hands. So far so good.

Boiling a can of spray paint though crazy. Best of luck for you finishing your xbox though. cant wait to see the finished xbox. beerchug.gif

my parents are "anti-modding"

this is what they sat, "it works how it is doesn't it? then leave it how it is!"

i just got my soldering iron and started painting my xbox, my parents are not very happy about it, but since i have good grades and all, i get away with it.

they think people try to trick you in forums, and. "how do you know they are not lying just to have you mess up your xbox?"

i started modding not so long ago, and i wish to keep doing it to learn from experience; wish my parents let me finish my xbox painting project.
pb2themax
I've done lots of model and RC car body painting, and heating up the paint does help the atomization of the paint, and makes for a smooth finish. But overheatng the paint can mess with the mix and composition. Plus make it dry too fast. Get it 125*F, at the most. With most model paint you don't want the paint completely dry when you add coats. It needs to be slightly tacky.
2sweet4u
Damn you people have strict parents. My dad would have just said something along the lines of "are you fucking stupid" and then that would have been that.
Hozy
You do have strict parents,
If i have any firecrackers my dad encourages me to blow them up, He's fun like that smile.gif
Oh well, I heat cans but i fill a bucket with Hot water from a tap and let it sit for 5/10mins so it pressurises a lil more and a finer mist,
Check the link in my sig hehe encouraged smile.gif

Regards
HoZy
Say10
Only let cans boil for like 3 minutes then they're heated.

I write graffiti, and i mix cans.
but i dont see why you would want to heat up a can of spray just to paint your box.
tutyet
lol i remember the good times were i know shit about what i was doing!

i used to mess with the hdd cable and i am suprised im still alive!

but now i have a proper place were i mod and all the stuff i need.

thefilepirater
ive seen some dumb shit in my day...wow..you take the cake...BOILING spraypaint...you should be locked in a padded room away from sharp objects and spray paint...once again...wow...your fuckin moron
waqas
what the fuck is your problem, maybe it was stupid, but who gives a shit. nobody else has called me a fuckin moron. if you got nothing decent to say, DONT SAY IT
orange21
well see you had 50 leds i have 500 and the places to put them never stop i mean like the scanner had a power led on it so i had to mod it . fun shitl. maybe i should put them all in one xbox.
Arjun
My parents' moto:
"If it works, leave it the fuck alone."
My moto:
"If it works, mod it."
"If it doesn't work, more of the reason to open it up, then mod it."

HAHA, yea, my parents are up the ass about it. Just because how much money I spend on it, and how many packages we recieve everyday. Once I add a custom touch to my mom's Lexus, all was better. My dad is pretty cool, he just says it's a hobby that I should persue in.
