Hi everyone,

a friend of mine bought a new xbox for last christmas.
He brought it to a shop and they soldered a modchip in there. Now he got his xbox back and says he cant read burned media.
The shop owner says that it is not his fault that he has one of the shitty Thomson drives that dont read burned media.

Now my question: Do the new xbox's even have Thomson drives ? I mean i never heard of a brandnew xbox that cant read burned discs.

It could be the media itself. The thomson drives tend to be more particular about the media than the phillips or samsung drives.

Yeah,

I could be the media too, check xbox-scene to make sure which DVD-Drive your friend has.
Also try Princo or Memorex DVD-R, works good on almost every xbox drive

ok thnx. thats what i wanted to check out this evening.
But are there new xbox that come with Thomson drives ? i thought only the older ones did have this drive

it may be an LG/Hitachi. Apprently they're very recent.

If its a samsung then it should read anything. Maybe the shop that put in the chip nicked the good drive and replaced it with a thompson? cos the guy who put in my friends chip years ago stole his samsung and gave him a philips.

exactly that were my thoughts. thats why i asked.

problem is that the guy has no idea and gave his stuff to the shop before checking out what hardware he has. so i guess there wont be any way to be sure if anything has been replaced by the shop. or is there ?
