I'm doin the HDD LED install by the tutorial on this site. I bought a 2.8v 12mA 500mcd red blinking led instead ot the 6v 20 mA green one that is suggested.........am i gonna blow it up? Does the LED have to be able to handle at least 5v to use it in this application?
Also, what is the purpose of the resistor in line with the LED? I am assuming it is to decrease power to the LED......if that is the case how many more resistors would i have to add to make the LED i bought (726-308) work? I have five of the 220 ohm resistors.
Thanx

If the HDD signal output is 5V youll need a 183 Ohm resistor (220 wil do just fine)

Heres the equation:
5v-2,8v
-------- = 183,3333 ohm
0,012A

The resistor is there to limit current (as you said)
