Full Version: The Whole Hard Drive Menu Rebooting Thing.. Wtf
Scenyx Entertainment Community > Xbox1 Forums > Dashboard Forums > Official Team UIX Forums > User.Interface.X (UIX) Bugs
LJSeinfeld
My Setup:
Xbox V1.0
SmartXX 1
Bios: Varies... Usualliy M7EF,X2, or IndBios (both either latest or very current) I usually have IGR on.

I boot into C and generally start up from EvoX, UnleashX, or Ava. I'm trying to run UIX as an application to try it out.

UIX.xbe lives on the root level of F, then the user.interface.x.dash folder. The paths in my ini file are unchanged "apps, games, etc..". I have deleted the cache files in UDATA, and am running the 'fixed' version of the .xbe. I have also tried moving the whole package to the root level of C.

no matter what I do, the thing reboots my XBOX when I try to select the Apps or Games menu (I haven't tried the other ones as the folders don't currently exist.)-- *every time*.

Also sometimes when I go to SYSTEM > Dash Configuration > General Settings and change anything... I can't back out of the menu... it just highlights the 'B' button icon and beeps at me.

This dash looks promising... but I can't seem to do much besides poke around in the various menus.

What the hell is going on?

Thanks in advance for the help.

its your paths - they must be set in the ini (correctly).
LJSeinfeld
My apps and games folders are both in F. I've tried setting the path to f:\apps, f:\apps\, f:\\apps (same for games) with no luck... come to think of it, the only one I've not tried is f:\\apps\

wonder if that's it?

gasclown
blink.gif you dont have to set the drive name - this is in the readme that came with the dash
LJSeinfeld
... which is what I indicated in my first post.....that the paths from the ini were unchanged....anyhow.. here's what it looks like.

So if I'm doing something wrong, and it has to to with my paths, what is it? I probably should have mentioned before that my 'apps' directory is on the root of F as well as my 'games' directory.

Anyone? Anyone?

I can't get this thing to work for the life of me...

Again, thanks if you can help.

have you tried just for testing purposes to create an apps or games folder on the root of the E drive? , i also have had this problem too however i dont recall fixing it but it works for me now. You arent by any chance running to copies of uix because i know from experiece this can cause problems too.
himself365
if there is nothing in any of the referenced folders it will reboot everytime.
eg. reference to dash in the ini file and the folder dash in the f drive doesn't have anyprograms:
f:\
dash\
evox\
default.xbe
ava\
default.xbe

if you select the dashboard button and no folders/default.xbe's there it will reboot.
hope this helps.
LJSeinfeld
The folder's I'm trying to go into (ie Apps and games) have files / folders in them... I don't have anything in dash or emu, but i'm not trying to select those options either....

Would that still cause a problem for UIX?

I haven't... but I can. I forget the size of the E drive.. but I'm fairly sure it won't house my games folder.. it's approaching 100 gigs. I suppose I could put a couple of files / folders in there just for testing.

Thanks for the help.. I'll report back when I have tried these things.

I have this EXACT same problem...

Reboots each and every time..

Ive given up on the problem and will just keep using UnleashX..

Is a pity as this dash looks very nice.. if only it worked sad.gif
LJSeinfeld
I've moved on with my life as well blink.gif

...maybe I'll try again after the next update

I've just worked this one out myself after being stuck with it for a a while. You only need to set the path as apps. The dash will auto scan all partitions until it finds a folder called apps. If this exists it will stop rebooting your box. Then to get all your apps to show up in the dash you need to go into the applications menu and press Y to refresh the cache.
LJSeinfeld
I had my paths set as 'apps', 'games' etc. (see text dump of my ini file above).... unless you see something wrong I'm missing in there, I'm stumped.
esdubu
The only other thing i can think of is the difference between Apps and apps. Not sure if UIX distinguishes between letter cases though. Are you sure you refreshed the cache using Y?
LJSeinfeld
My folder is entitled 'apps' and my path is also entitled 'apps' (again please see text from my ini file above). I never get to the point where pressing Y to refresh the cache.. the xbox reboots the second I select the Applications menu in UIX.

That's UIX.. I renamed it to default.xbe when I was checkin on everything else..

I have since moved the whole UIX install to my C drive (because I heard that may help) and also setup to have my Bios load it as the main dash (I was running it as an application before), but all I get is more of the same...

I event went to the UIX irc channel last night looking for help.... that was less than productive (not many people chatting).

Does UIX have any problems with SmartXX or IND-Bios? huh.gif
TIMxIRISH
Pisses me off.. I'm having the same problem too. I checked the config file, made sure everything was fine, and I can't pinpoint the problem PERIOD. I recently tried a custom version made by jkleung that loads those sections just fine, so there's a fix out there somewhere... Although I could just use the custom version, I like the layout of the original one a little better, and I think it would be nice for my buddy, who's a noob with xbox modding.

Any more help out there?

Well if you're positive you have the ini set up perfect, IE a folder on F:\apps and the ini is set up as [Applications]
Name=Applications
Path=apps
You need to delete the cache in E:\Udata.
Delete 0ffeeff0 and boot up UIX.
More then likely the dash made a cache of the empty path and is continuing to look at it.
TIMxIRISH
beerchug.gif Thanks man. That was it. Now i can set it to my main dash and no more frusterations.

Also, for anyone having trouble getting the dashboards menu to work, you need to make a folder somewhere called dashboards (put the folder in F or something), set the path to "dashboards", and make a folder for each individual dash. If you keep your dashes in C, use XBE Shortcut maker and place a shortcut in each of the folders for your dashes in the dashboards folder. They need to be named default.xbe for it to work.

...Took me a few minutes and I finally got the dashboards menu to work. Thought I'd share that to contribute to this thread a bit more. happy.gif
