I just want to state that I disagree with the fact that "Editing" of posts has been disabled, and have my opinion noted by X-S. wink.gif

I think a few people who deleted all of their "informitive" posts (because they were disgruntled )should not effect the rest of the users on X-S. My opinion is that if someone wants to take the time to do that, screw them, we don't need their posts anyway... mad.gif

I personally used the edit feature responsibly. I used the edit feature a lot in my installers post, to update pricing and services. In addition, I frequently would edit posts where I found a better way of saying something after I had already posted. Sometimes it took a few hours, and rather than posting again to artificially inflate my post count, I would just edit my previous post.

I PM'd a mod, as the pinned topic stated and found that only "guidewriters" are allowed edit. They are not granting sellers or shops "edit" permissions. I don't think that is in the best interest of X-S users. It is SO MUCH more effecient to maintain one post, than to keep updating with new posts. This means the user has to read the whole thread to find out what is going on, or what items are still available, instead of just looking at one post...

I have said this before, if it comes to it, I am willing to pay $ to X-S to have a premium" account. An account where my Search Engine always works, and where I can edit my own posts.

Ok, I've had my say. I'll move on now and hope the decision is eventually reversed beerchug.gif

i 100% agree. this thread will no doubt be locked pretty quickly though stating whats already been stated in the sticky.
but my whole thing was, what if these people with editing ability go ape shit and delete all the tutorials?
it hasnt really had too much impact on me, but whatever, i dont think it will change anytime soon

I miss the edit button too. I had a post I needed to edit ASAP today because the picture I had used in a post went into some anti leech thing and was showing a bad picture instead of the picture I posted. I PM'd a mod and he fixed it.

I shouldn't have to ask a mod to edit my post when I can do it myself. Kinda like I can blow my nose without my mothers help.

I agree strongly too, for me it's a stupid rule. But it's not our choice and the moderators (well HSD) will most likely say no.

Also, if you ask me the damage that will be done, has already been done.

If that makes any sense at all.

I'm glad I saw that the picture I posted had changed and I got a mod to edit it for me. If I didn't someone could have reported it and I could have been banned.

It was a picture of a guy wearing a tinfoil hat and had a caption saying "it's a compiracy". The link to the picture was still good and the picture could be downloaded. But if you use it in a post here, it had a anti leech feature that showed another picture. That picture was a nasty picture that would burn your eyes because it was so nasty. wacko.gif

The thing is that it was removed for a reason.

It was heavily abused and to maintain a group that should have access to the edit button from a userbase close to 200.000 members isnīt realy something one could demand.

But ofcourse this is only my view and only the admins opinion counts in this situation as they have this sites name and rep to protect.

i agree aswell, i misstyped a link to a picture i posted and i had to repost again to get it right.

edit should not be disabled.

If you make a typo for a posted image - I would think you would notice right away. No?

Right. And you should always check your links anyway.

Not really.

Just seems you would notice the "user posted image" instead of picture.. within 15 minutes.

I understand what you are saying, but I never really wait for the page to load after posting, guess most people do though - I'm just impatient sad.gif

With all due respect to the poster that believes we don't need the missing info you guys haven't a clue just how much went "missing" without our knowledge. Good info.. some of which we don't have backup for any more.

People upset because they can't edit a sales post or an installers post I honestly could care less about. I've said it a million times, XS is not a robust Sales forum for you to leech and make money from. XS won't bend over backwards for those making money from our site for free. Be happy you make what you do here.

In fact.. XS fully endorses, and encourages members to use OTHER sales sites. They offer services such as professional advertising, pro-rating, snitch lines, insurance, etc. With XS sales and installers forums.. it's caveat emptor. (buyer Beware) I won't even begin to discuss how much bullshit that forum still give us daily in regards to scam artists, liars, cheats, and switch and bait scams. (in the top 50 threads in BST, I got fraud complaints for 10 of them.. with little or no proof.. but nevertheless..)

Don't like how we'll value a technical poster over a guy selling modchips from his moms basement, get over it. BTW.. anyone with a technical thread, guide, listing, etc contact me if you need edit privs to maintain your body of work on xs.

If you have a Sales edit to make.. contact Oswald and he'll be glad to either make the edits, or close the old thread (he won't delete it so don't ask) and then you can open the new one. Don't like Oswald? Can't be bothered to contact him? Then don't bug anyone else. When he gives up on BST so will we. (not relevant to this post but people can stop sending in moderator abuse complaints about Oswald. He's doing a hard job sniffing out bs'ers in the BST forum with their multilpe accounts and scams.)

Anyone not liking the no edit for sales.. feel free to use a more robust service.

For others that trip and make a grammer error.. check your shit before you post. Read it after you post to catch stuff. This isn't brain surgury. If your post is worth EDIT it was worth checking before you submitted it.

Pics changing after you post them? you shouldn't be linking to pics you can't control or don't have permission to. Members posting such "rotating" pics will be held responsible when they "mysteriously change". It was likley changed cause you linked to their files. Doing so on this site can severely impact their bandwidth depending on where you post.. and they many time take revenge by replacing the pics you linked to with ones no one really wants to see.

When the site was small we could get away with little or no structure.. few rules.. and little moderation.

We are simply too big to let people run around shitting on the forum.

EDIT is "gone" well.. 15 minutes rule aside.. and Technical posters with valuable info.

MODS: Close any news "EDIT" discussion threads. The topic is closed until senior staff determine otherwise.
