Hi, here comes my second casemod. It's not finished yet.

I haven't paint the case yet, first the dvd-windo.
Some off the things wich are blue yet will become dual collored.

Did you just cover up the internals of the dvd drive with maskng tape?

I used some painterstape for it, several rows.
Not sure about the result of the electronics under it, but we'll see it after it's done.

It looks like you spray painted the laser??Or am I just seeing things if so sorry.

The Laser is beneath the tape.
I painted the top of the spinner. You possible see something round, close to the edge and in the middle of the dvd-drive (at the side of the open tray), but that's just a mechanical wheel for opening and closing the tray.

BTW: is that a different paint than krylon fusion? (looks like it..)

Controller will be blue/white/metallic too.

I don't know krylon fusion, so it must be a different paitn (or luck).

im seeing alot of people use the fan grills over their jewels now....must be a new thing

The fangrill was my idea. I placed it for about 10 months ago. I was one of the first (never seen anybody doing that) with it. Now I hope to be the first with a full colored dvd-drive.
And about the carpet. It's in our garage, so it's not the biggest problem.

what is the grill made out of?

On the first case you mean, I guess.

I removed the jewel, cut out the plastic beneath it with a stanleyknife. Placed a ccfl in it and screwed the metal grill on it. I hope this answers your question, otherweise you just have to say it.

You fucked up your dvddrive mate. The spinning will heat it, the paint will get sticky and your dvd will get fucked up.

You also painted the little radar :S Not that smart i think.

it is funny how everything comes around again and people are like "thats so original!"... like the textured paint thats a mini-trend again... people were doing that alomst 3 years ago...

awesome jewel up top and that's going to be a REALLY blue xbox. I like blue, so I'm sure it will be cool.

I haven't gotten up enough nerve to paint my dvd tray yet.

Bad idea to paint the tray where the disc sits.

I dont see why, really. The disk doesnt spin on the tray, or else you would have scratched up disks quite often.

Well it looks like he painted the disc clamp and the area where it spins. That's not good.

Also, he painted the area under the drive and the sides. He only covered the laser and the center of the drive. If that drive works at all, it'll work for maybe a few minutes.

Where the dvd spins is no paint. Not at the top of the drive. I painted one site of the metal top of the drive and the top of the spinner. So I'm not suspecting any problems. I tested it (without a game) and there were no problems. It was just a test if it's possible to paint the drive. If it seems te mess up the function of the drive, I learned something and if it doesn't mess up a thing, I'm happy with my blue drive.

The frontpanel is a bit messy I agree. The paint I used was not as good as I suspected.
Maybe the fangrill idea wasn't new. I never saw it before, so for me it was new.

I'm playing a cd for about 2 hours now and have no problems at all with the drive.

Pretty nice box, and I really like the painted DVD tray... I don't see why everyone was like "IT WON'T WORK!" It seems to be fine. Nice paint scheme too.

I have to paint the dvd-tray-front again. It's now white and blue, but the frontpanel haves metallic to white and blue.

And the case and dvd-window. Leds, neon. Enough to do.

Some new pictures. The paint I used was terrible, the second casemod (bluw/white/metallic) is not as good as my first one.




Because of the flash light, the white color is on the picture more white and more light and the metallic is more dark than in real. It looks like it's dirty etc, but in real it's looking good. Not perfect, but not that bad. Too bad my paint whas empty, so I didn't paint the gradient white/metallic effect on the top and didn't paint a logo on the top and the datacable inside. I didn't want to by some new paint of that crappy quality.

Ejectled is green, but wil be blue, including blue leds for underglow and a see-through window on the dvd-drive.

i really do think you should consider stripping it down and repainting it.

that paint looks horrible.

but kudos about the drive.

Nice box but i reckon u shud have painted it a metallic silver rather than white. I like the lightning on the DVD controller and the dvd drive tho

U shud get one of them 3d jewels which is basically stock but has lightning behind it

I have a blue UV fangrill (plastic see-through). To bad you don't see it very well on the picture..

good plan, bad execution, and painting the dvd drive isnt too smart. at leats it wasnt a sammy

Jup, the execution isn't that great. I had to paint some things over and over, but it's still isn't nice. But in real it doesn't look that bad (on the photo with flashlight you see the dirty details better ).
When I have enough of this, I'll make a new casemod, with some good paint, like my first casemod.
And about the dvd-drive. Everybody says it's not good. It was a test (I didn't saw it before). But I still have no problems at all and I played many hours.
