regular notpad is fine. If you want a snazzy one, you can get 'xap editor', but only if you can be bothered downloading it. Just google it, its easy to find.

XAP editor works fine for me.. there are some bugs though , but it helps alot especially with browsing of xap files and syntax color recognition as well. you can get it off x-s.

Actualy your xip files are kinda like zip files the contain xap files. (that why the tuts say stuff like edit default.xip/xap). U need a xip editor to extract the xips. You can find out where to find them by registering at teamuix.com and checking their download section.
mrmodem
Winxip is used to extract /insert the xaps from the xip files.... you can get this off of xbox-scene.

mrmodem.

and to further that id use a prog. like .xap editor, itll show you if you forgot to close brackets or whatever. It can be found on xbox scene too. If you want to go to the full extent i would sugest a program called notepad++ which is awsome for all kinds of code, and thats what i use.
