Satan00
well uh, i have cable but my caps are insane smile.gif
10mbit/1.5mbit

and i pulled these speeds before
Syrus
bah lucky you. mines capped at 250k/s down 50k/s up
Drew826
damn, you guys are lucky. cable is nowhere near that fast in my area. i've got dsl (1.5mbit (180kB/s) down, about 30kB/sec up). I sure do miss my line in college! (10mbit each way)
echto
170K/down, 30K/up.
The Legendary Rob
what do u mean by LAN? i have cable but on LAN

I think they mean like businesses, edu, or other shared connections serviced by a large bandwidth pipeline.
pCeSlAyEr
max : 3.6meg d/l 131kb u/l

actual : 450kb d/l 15kb u/l

im capped like crazy on my u/l

Drew826
looks like you're not really capped at all pCeSlAyEr...

from what you said, i'll assume your max d/l is 3.6mbit/s and your max u/l is 131kbit/s.
I'll also assume that when you're watching your d/l or u/l speed, it's being measured in bytes, not bits (as it almost always is).
1 byte (upper-case "B") = 8 bits (lower-case "b")
So, your max d/l in terms of bytes should be one eighth of your max download in bits. 3.6/8 = .45 - That's .45mbyte/s, which is roughly 450 kB/s (which is what you get, right?)
You max u/l should adhere to the same principles, so 131/8 = 16.375 - That's 16.375kB/s upload (about what you measured).

That's how ISPs fool you...they always speak in terms of bits, but most users are accustomed to bytes. So it may sound like you have a fast connection when you're paying for it, but it's only about an eighth of what you think it's gonna be.
pCeSlAyEr
I know that.... but im capped on my u/l..... I have friends who have uncapped themselves and get 250 -400kbps on there u/l... bastards... the lines around here have speeds up to about 8mb u/l d/l....

so now u can see why im saying im capped
Drew826
well fuck me. i see what you're saying. sucks that you're capped so much!
N00bvin
I d/l around 700 kBs and upload around 160 kBs... that's an average on a good day... I'm on cable, though, and it jumps around like crazy...

I blaze on downloads with Download Accelerator Plus... in fact, I think it goes too fast... it'll jump to about 1 Meg per second and then just seem to die... and I get nothing... anyone had this happen? It's almost like when a bunch of cars on the freeway are all going along at 60 MPH, then they have to merge to one lane... screeching to a stop.
Syrus
Bah, your making me jeleaous. I'd LOVE an uncapped connection, would be sweet biggrin.gif
There actually is a way to raise your caps, but it deals with your isp's DHCP server, and I dont really wanna screw around with that, if they find out i dont wanna have to get DSL sad.gif (which is slower around here)

What would be nice is if i had a dedicated T1+, buy some ip's, run a server, host shells, make money with that, pay off the T1 and you can download stuff yourself biggrin.gif it would practically pay for itself if there were enough custumers smile.gif
CZroe
I get access to a s company network that benchmarks faster than a T3 on my nights and weekend security shifts. I love doing 12-hour graveyard shifts (It's work. No I don't!) biggrin.gif

You get host all the time cause 1.5MB up is insane compared to what most subscribers cap upload off at!!

I get 3MB down, 300k up with Cableone for 45 bucks a month!

umm... to the guy bragging about it... bumping old topics is lame. Although, this is actually a good topic, regardless of the age, so I'll post.

wow... upload speed sucks... 707kilobytes/second download speed, but 30kilobytes/second upload speed. meh.
JayDee
Used to be on 24mbit down and 1mbit up (adsl2+)

Now i am on 8mbit down and 1mbit up (Cabel, but with the prospect of getting 100mbit in the near future)

And yes, this is a damn old post
deadparrot
1mb down, 256kb up sad.gif

Getting RADSL at the end of the month, so I'll be getting between 2mb - 8mb down and 448kb up.
juanman
wow, i didnt know 1.5 up was good. i guess it is, all you guys are getting like 5+ down and less than 1 down.
i guess im lucky. biggrin.gif
plus the little phone terminal shed thing is only like a mile up the road, that might be helping my speed
_GhOsT_

juanman
oh really modder?

That won't make a difference with your internet connection. It has a maximum of 22Mbps, versus your maximum download of 4Mbps.

All i know is, my computer connected directeclty through the router gets 4mb, while my computer 2 stories up gets half that through my wireless connection.

lower signal = lower throughput with wireless, thast why i wired my entire home network
xboxhackern00b
mine isnt bad i could use a faster one though

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-06-18 15:11:49 EST:
7496 / 344
Your download speed : 7496 kbps or 937 KB/sec.
That is 39% better than an average user on comcast.net

Your upload speed : 344 kbps or 43 KB/sec.
That is 14.2% worse than an average user on comcast.net
cmodding
I win you.

20mbit/1mbit(i dont care about upload speed)

But I'm capped on 8mbit.
pablot
currently 8mbit down and 1mbit up, getting 100mbit down and 10mbit up within a few months.. it goes wroooooooooooom!!!

9 down/ 1 up, and I pretty much have that all the time, its not dedicated but I always get 9 and 1
Alex548
Just curious, anyway to tweak things a little bit WITHOUT getting in trouble with the ISP?
eatingbabies
yes you can tweak your registry oh so slightly. it helped me a bit. if anything it just keep ,e at my higher speeds more often.

On some crazy days (usually late at night) I have found myself hit a 17.2 mbit/s mark. My usual d/l speed on limewire with alot of downloads and hosts can easily hit around 1MB/s. My u/l usually stays at 345kB/s.

microtorrent rapes my bandwidth though, even when I'm not seeding or downloading at a high rate.
Kraptreon
I tested my schools connection at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and got

IPB Image
which equals 1085.5/486.375 KBps

At home i can only get dial up or super expensive satalite, so i went with dial-up an the speeds are kinda wierd

i get around 5.5 KBps download and 12 KBps upload?

lostboyz
in the dorms I had 3mb down 3mb up but then they started a bandwidth tier that the more you downloaded the slower speeds you got, so first step was 300mb in a 24 hr period got you 3mb down 1.5 up and few more steps then if you did more than 8gb in a 7day period you would be at a 56k level for a day.

But I moved out this year and have one choice and its some crappy 1.5mb down and 512kb up o well
