Hello all,

I have a bunch of Aladdin EX chips here that need flashing, but Sunday Flash doesn't work for me. It says:

---
Flash manufacturer = aa
Flash device code = aa
Flash ID check failed, are you sure you have flash enabled?
---

I can't boot from the chips, I use hot swap technique. If the chip has flashing disabled by factory, how to enable it?

I'm flashing Aladdin Advance XTs daily, with no problem.
Any help appreciated.

Read the FAQ and download the flash disc (exflash.iso) from:
http://www.divineo.cn/cgi-bin/div-cn/xb-alex

Actually the flash disc is nothing but Evox dashboard with flash IDs, "bf52" and "dab0", added. You can also use raincoat or Gentoox Loader to flash 49LF020A.

More info about Aladdin Ex can be found at
http://www.project-design.com/aladdin/products.html

Interestingly, Team Aladdin also produces an Aladdin XT 4032 clone which they called Aladdin XT+. To me, Aladdin Ex is just one of the Aladdin clones that use 49LF020A. So unless Aladdin Ex is much cheaper than DuoX 2, why bother with yet another Aladdin clone?

Well that didn't take long .. you see aladinchip or aladdinlive , whatever you wanna call them had to make a switch to the 49lf020a chips. So they have new versions that are like the xenochip aladdin xt but probly not as good. For my money though i'll stick to robotpigs clones as they do just fine and ofcourse the Duox2 is a better chip for V1.6

Thanks, but still nothing. Evox returns (similar to Sunday flash):

Manufacturers ID aa Device ID aa
!! Flash not writeable !!

Any other ideas? I can flash my Aladdin Advance XT, which is also 020A based, with both Sunday flash and EvoX and no problems, but none of Aladdin EX.

Thanks.

Now I've tried adding a line:

Flash = 0xaaaa,"SST - 49LF020A",0x40000

to evox.ini, but still nothing. It recognises the chip, but hangs on "Erasing.". Is this chip write protected?

Conclusion:

problem solved. I installed the chip according to this site: http://www.aladdinlive.com/mod/ex_placement.JPG which shows the chip installed the WRONG way. Yep, the info on this site concerning the placement of EX is plain wrong. Luckily I didn't fry the chip or my xbox... It's "bf52", after all.. Thanks.

thorro, since you said you have used Aladdin XT before getting Aladdin Ex, what made you switch? Is Aladdin Ex cheaper than Aladdin XT or DuoX 2? Since Aladdin Ex is using Lattice 4032, it should be not much better than Aladdin XT 4032 feature wise, so what is so special about Ex that made you choose it?

Sorry, I am just being curious.

I bought them just because of the low price. Maybe I should buy DuoX2 instead, so next time...

I am also having some problems I also installed the chip according to aladdinlive.com, and it only booted in normal (xbox) mode.
Now i have installed it with the BT and D0 on the right side (not on the left side as aladdinlive.com told)
Is this O.K. ? (I know this question can be stupid but English is not my native language and I want to be sure of the position of the chip) If my english is not to bad I understood that the aladdinlive.com diagram was wrong, wasn't it?
Thanks in advance

I suggest you get your diagrams and chip flashing program from the site you purchased your chip from. That way you are not dragging Sunday flash, Sunday Chip or clevermod.com through the mud during your little mod chip fiasco.

I have to say I have used Sunday Flash numerous times and it is very stable and I have never had a problem.
