i was in another forum and someone said something about XboxConnects could someone tell me what this program is and if it is located at the "USUAL PLACES"

NOT on xbins.
It's like xbox live, but for free, mainly used for playing halo2.

Hey guys i told a friend about these programs but his Xbox is not modded is it posible for him to play through XBCONNECT if so what would he have to do

can you play backups on these systems or only from the cd?
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can use them without a mod using a router, if the Xbox can get a connection to the net. I'm kinda sure I heard this answered before, but won't vouch for it (but, hey, if the PSP can play over Xlink, and they aren't modded, then.... 
).

The site explains this in point 3 of the FAQ, just so u know.
And it's free, its not M$ controlled, so if Xpong was system link u could even play that.

I've used XBconnect for a couple years now.
On Halo 1, there were some really good people on there.
However, on Halo 2, the people on there suck major ass.
But the neXBC(alpha) version works kinda like Live, it works well.
And as other dude stated:
No, you don't have to be modded. Most are not.
Yes you can be modded.
Yes it's free.
Yes it's primarily for Halo 2, but you still may be able to find people playing what you want to play.
