Have an xbox that was originally modded and everything and at the same time a WD 120gig was installed with an ata 133 cable. The cable was pinched when case put back together and this caused the box to lockup and could hear the harddrive clunking like when you turn off the xbox. Games would then keep running for a couple of seconds (from RAM i think) then the xbox would freeze.

I opened up the box and saw the cable had been pinched exposing metal which i assume was shorting on the case making the harddrive turn off. The cable was put back to stock. No problems for a couple of months then the xbox lost some files.

Reinstalled programs.

Couple of months later xbox was giving an error 9. Got it to boot again. Now noticed that the harddrive is turning off like it did at the start. Cable is fine, power looks ok.

Would the original shorting casue damage to the drive making it turn off later on? Anyone know what warranty they have on these drives? Would the original shorting casue bad sectors on the drive later leading to the problems i have now?

Dude, you donot need to bump twice. Harddrives are very delicate and can crash for good if they short out. You probally need to get a new one or send it back if you have the waranty.
