Hey guys I come here because I have literally no idea how to mod the Gamecube with LEDs. Could someone provide a short written tutorial or even with pics? I want to have two side windows lit with leds and the jewel lit. Please help me out. I know this may seem basic. But I don't know where to start.

on the pcb where the power button is you will see two solder blobs, one is ground one is 12v. cant remember which is which. now all you need is a drill, some sandpaper or some kind of chemical to make the jewel clear and some time smile.gif

now if you have no idea on leds at all just ask wink.gif

Yeah I guess I never really got into using LEDs.. or have any exprience with them. Is there a good tutorial on how to make.. for example a ring of LEDs that would be all connected? How do I connect them, do I need resistors.. I just don't know that stuff or how to learn about it. I hate for anyone to hold my hand. But if anyone explained it to me in enough detail I would be able to learn it easily. My goals are to have a frosted jewel with two side windows frosted plexi glass and have everything illuminated white white leds. I will paint the case entirely white. It is just going to be a white glowing cube. But with an orange power light of course.

So to do this I would need to have three strands of LEDs going to three different areas. The right side, the left side and underneath the jewel.

Maybe you can help me understand how it would work, the methods for connecting multiple LEDs together.

I'd like it to be as simple as just soldering all the leds to a wire, then having all three strands soldered to a main wire then that main wire soldered to the power source. But I know it isn't that easy.

it is nearly. wiring the leds is the easy part,
wire all the negative legs together, wire all postive legs together, then get just attach the negative wire to ground then the postive wire to a resistor which goes to the 12v
now the hard part is where you are gonna place all the leds. your gonna have to drill multiple holes for that...
a couple in the cd bay, a couple in the thing that holds the fan.

there is a really good tutorial made by another x-scene member on doing this but i cant remeber where it is =/ ill have a look

i made a picture for you.
my paint skills are 1337 lol

you just keep adding to the chain untill you have all of your leds hooked up.

How do I determine the resistor I need. Also.. your picture is that if I were to make a ring.. I need to make a ring and two chains. I'll make a paint sketch as well and you can tell me if it is possible.
Barcode
Well mine turned out really bad. but could I attach two seperate strands of leds to the ring just by soldering the corresponding parts the wire?
Barcode
Well I made the diagram after all. I hope it isn't to confusing. I forgot to add the resistor part. How would I determine the resistor to use?

What it illustrates is a ring of leds with two strands of leds soldered to the ring. then the ring having to wires leading out from the ring to the power and ground source.

hers a nice calculater for working out your resistor.
el_diablo
use the calc for parallel, and no u cant do that, because u have a combination of leds in series and parallel. it would have to be something more like this
user posted image

they have to around in a loop. just one big ring like earlier is easier.

or you could make the 2 outside strands in series if you want.
like this

or you could attach a resisitor to each led...
Barcode
I understand what a series is but what is a parallel?
el_diablo
its the led ring, all the positve legs are soldered together and connect to a power source and all the negative legs are soldered together and connected to ground.
Barcode
The thing is if I want to light up the windows I can't just have one big ring.
el_diablo
what have you been smoking?
of course you can =/

How does one use a horizontal ring of light to light vertical sides? Maybe I'm just confused.

THANKYOU FOR THOSE TUTORIALS. YOU ARE GOD.
el_diablo
just because it is wired up like you are doing a ring doesnt mean it has to be shapped like a ring.

you have your ring for the disc bay and then have the wires going off to the side vents.

my paint skills really cant help you anymore.
