As an avid ps2 modder Id stongly advocate that a laser fix is applied on any unit v9 and above, all have ad problems with lasers dying due to poor voltage regulation. The est fixes so far are a simple resistor across the circuit for the tracking coil. Internally the voltage can peak to upwards of 17v and that is way to much for a tiny coil. Xmods is a cool guy and Id assume he is doing these fixes on all the units hes shipping. Bump for him and I can use some crystal chips if you get around to it...

Would you be interested in an unmodded PS2 + accessories + cash for a premod?

PM me if you'd be interested.
