My XBox hard drive recently broke. So, I would like to install a new hard drive. From everything I have read, I would definatly need a mod chip. That's fine. But, the mod chip will need to do a couple things: 1) either play burned games or play games that are on the hard drive 2) be able to play on Xbox Live without being banned. So, if anyone could point me to the right mod chip or solution, that would be AMAZING! Thanks in advance.
Will I need a mod chip if I get another stock Xbox HDD?

doux2 is cheap and is very nice, has 2 flash banks, get x2 4981, it will block xbox live form connecting if you accidentally connect with chip on, but its only for 1.0-1.5, if you had xbox live before you changed your hard drive youll need a new eeprom

Basically The chip itself has no live blocking capabilities... the live blocking comes into play with the bios you flash on the chip. I suggest the xenium chip or a smartxx both will alow you to flash via a USB jump drive or ftp. Flashing with any other method than the standard flashbios and CD-RW is highly suggested. Go check out http://bmmods.com
they got a good assortment of chips.

So, from what you are saying Chon_Lee, I will not be able to play on Xbox Live with the mod chip on? So, is there anyway I can play on Xbox Live while running the game from either a burned CD or the HDD?

No. As of right now there is no public way to play games from a backup on live.
