Trying to change the red leds in my mouse to blue (yes its xbox related, mouse can be used on an xbox

). Anyway, i took apart the mouse, desoldered the old light and put in a new one, but it doesn't work. After heaps of trying, i got out the multimeter and have a feeling the new light needs more power than the old, therefore not working, so im gonna change the resistor sometime. Can ne1 give me nemore tips on this or what they did if they did?
Thanks

I had no problem putting a blue led in my Logitec optical mouse, just desoldered the red one, put the blue one in and soldered it. It works perfectly, and looks way better

only laser mouse made yet is the MX1000 all others are led optical mice...
and all you have to do is unsolder the red led and solder in the new led...make sure its a higher intensity led though, 5000 mcd blues dont give as much depth as red even though its 3000mcd...make it a little brighter and itll be fine...but beware some mice are bitches..like a mx700..bitch and a half has like 3 circuit boards all jammed into it heh anyways good luck

Mines a cheap brand mouse, "Chic", it has browser back and foward buttons too, its great!
There are 2 lights in this mouse, 1 at the back and 1 near the sensor. I did as you've all said though, desoldered the old red led (3mm) at the back and i put in a 5mm in its place but nothing. I don't even think the old light worked, cos it looks the same. The red light next to the laser is still there so i'll have to get a 3mm blue sometime and try it.
I think its just a resistor though, my 5mm blue may not be getting enough current to power it, the old light in there is only very dim. I think ill just have to take out the resistor and try it straight through.

how much volts did the multi meter say there was because all the blue leds ive worked with require a minimum of 3 volts and the reds i have worked with i think are 2.2 volts min

It might be a voltage problem, because some blue LEDs are 3.3V and some red are only 1.7V, but I think it is likely that the mouse controlls the current going to the LED, not the voltage, so that might not be the problem (I dont have the mouse though, so I have no way of knowing for sure).
Are you sure that your LED is the right way around?

I tried the way that looked right, but nothing, so i tried the other way but still nothing. Im about to pull it apart again and do some more tests, cos i don't even know if the old light was working. Theres a resistor b4 the led so im gonna maybe take that out and see how much i get. I'll report back here with what i find.
And yeah, the blue needs 3.3v which im gonna try and get out of it (the mouse).

would a white led work? Its specs are as follows:
Typical MCD is 1100. Size is T-1- 3/4 or 5mm. Clear lens color. 20mA (max). Typical Voltage is 3.6V
THIS is the mouse.
