Im trying to find out if there is another way to cut out a window in the xbox case top other than using a dremel tool. I used a junk case I had lying around to test it, and it chewed the fuck out of the plastic. I was using the larger, more expensive cutting disks and was planning on removing the air vents on the sides of the xbox and using plexiglass instead. Is there something I am doing wrong perhaps? Or is it supposed to be like that, and than you have to hand sand all the little bits of melted plastic and what not until it is all smooth? Someone please let me know, because I really want to get started on this. Thanks.

Start it with a dremel and then use a jig saw.

ive used every tool but cutting discs----reg. drill bit, heat knife, some strange dremel bit that wasnt for cutting, it doesnt matter, u just need to sand a lot
punisher84087
i used a metal air grinder
set the compressor to 60 lbs and got my window cut in 10 min
looks nice (i would post pic but my mom wont let me use the digi cam for a week)

Well, I don't have access to a true dremel, I have a cheap rotary tool, but I managed to break all the cutting disc's I had, so, long story short, I taped off the area I wanted to cut, and started by scoring the lines with an exacto/hobby knife, after a few passes with the bladed edge, I flipped the knife over and began to score it with the blunt edge. This allowed to me cut the plastic peice out, then I began to sand using my cheap wanna-be rotary tool. My window turned out great. Patience is key.

i don't have a dremel, i use a drill and a file. it doesn't do the greatest job but it works. looking at the shielding cut on every1 elses drives though, looks perfect, my last job was using the tinsnips. it looks bad, im gonna have to learn how to do it right b4 i do my mates next one

Damn right, nice job man. What I want to do is put a window on all 4 sections of the X, and on the top portion of the vents on the sides. I already picked up some purpleish-blue lexon to put underneath the windows, and I have a few tiny blue neons set up so it will make the windows glow beautifuly. Just need to get the cutting down. My first attempt took me about 10 minutes to cut the window out. I am guessing that is why it didn't turn out all that well. It did look descent however after I sanded it. I guess Ill just practice a little more on the spare cases I have here until I get to where I feel comfortable enough to start hacking away on my box.

Thanks for the compliments guys biggrin.gif The key is the hand sanding after you do the initial cutting and sanding with the Dremel.

4 hours is slow... shit. this one has about 8 hours into it, and it's still not perfect. used a dremel to remove the majority of stuff, then sat back in front of the tv with a needle file set... i think it'll be worth it when i get er done. if and when that happens.. laugh.gif

jig-saw is the best for cutting straight lines, but when making round corners, or designs the dremel is by far better.

the flame will be green and yellow... i tested the effect on another case using red and yellow and if it turns out half as well it's going to be awesome. not sure about teh 'inferno' part.. either solid green or solid yellow, can't quite decide. suppose i'll try both after the flame is done to see which looks best.

as for paint, gonna leave it how it is... green fins (want to keep something from the halo LE, hence the green flame) with x painted black. will throw a couple more coats on once the windows done.. just threw a quick coat on to help see how it's going to turn out.

i figure with the black/green combo this will be a pretty subtle box... till i turn on the lights, then she'll definately stand out. cool.gif

as long as i'm on the subject of this box, anyone want to trade my clear x3 pro switch for their green one? all the contest winners get clear, but i really need a green one for this box.. shoot me a pm if interested.
