hi really noob question i bought my xbox already chipped or softmodded how do i tell which when it starts i get the big x and underneath it says xecuter2 then avalaunch starts???, the box has being opened but that still does not tell me if its chipped of soft
plus is a link cable just an ordinary crossover cable cheers

Its chipped or TSOP flashed.
You would not see the Xecuter 2 (the name of the bios not the chip
) text if you had a softmod.

Open up the xbox and have a look to see if there is a chip. No chip means it is TSOPed.
The only disadvantage of a TSOP flash is not being able to disable it for playing on live.

The only way to tell is to have a look inside. If it has a chip fitted it would be quite obvious. Did the person you got the box from not tell you which way it was modded? If you don't want to disturb anything then you could always give them a ring and ask

at this point it does not matter
they work the same (if it has a switch to turn it off)
it just if you paid for chiped or not...
i bought it of a friend who got it off some 1 else so no idea is the case opened for tsop?
The placing of the chip will be pretty apparent, when you remove the DVD drive, you will see the chip, it will stand out, so like said above, if you dont see one, its TSOPed.
If you never want to use live, a TSOP will be fine for you.
btw, you bought a modded box, and didn't ask what mod you were getting?

i got it for £20 uk and no problem running anything on it originals and backups run fine
why i was asking about a link cable i want to join 2 boxs together for system link play so will a regular crossover cable work
