I install xbox live the day I got my xbox, now after reading a bit I have a mod chip on the way. my question is will xbox live interfere with the installation of the chip? as long as I make a switch I'm ok right?

After you put your chip in, make sure you name your evox dashboard evoxdash.xbe. When the modchip is on it will boot that. When you turn the modchip off, then it will boot the original xboxdash.xbe. You are all good for live sir.

also if u replace yer HD with a bigger one you will need to 'lock' yer drive in order to boot up in retail mode (modchip off). A good tool for locking would be config magic final. If you are jus using yer stock HD it is already locked so you will be ready to go on xblive.

never launch xbox live when chipped is enabled.
if you do you will be banned

What i did with all my games that have the update.xbe and dashupdate.xbe was remove them both and then inplace of them i put those two files, reboot.xbe and shutdown.xbe and then renamed them to update and dashupdate and now when i click on xbox live in a game it reboots the xbox for me.
