ok, i sent my xbox to a freind in NY and he set it up with a mod chip and a 160 gig hard drive, he sent it back and its been all good exept, I noticed that it was XBIT chip and it was running on xecuter2/avalaunch software, i tried to turn off the chip by having all off exept switch 4, this gave me a screen that says 05 in the corner and ERROR call costomer services and japanise and stuff, and ive been messing with it trying to get to the original xbox dashboard, i would much appreciate it if i could get some help. THANX MUCH

You just need to lock the hdd.

I reccomend config magic to solve your problem here.

When i goto setting it says HDD lock (click to enable): Disabled
and when i click it says "Cannot lock a HDD without unlocking it first"

Well, just turn that chip back on.

The executer2 software is just the BIOS that's used along with the chip, Avalaunch is the dashboard (software) your friend installed for you.

I doubt XBIT have their own BIOS'es anyway (sorry, too lazy to look up, 99.9% sure), with any modchip you can use bunches of dashboards, just install the one you like.

If everything worked perfect when you got it, remember this next time : Don't try to fix what isn't broken!

Another tip: Stay as far away as possible from (un)locking/formatting/BIOS/Flashing/Eeprom tools as possible, unless you're 100% sure of what you're doing and know why and what trying to achieve in the first place.

Using this kind of tools may ruin your xbox forever!

If you insist on toying with this kind of software: read all tutorials you can find, read all relevant threads on the forums.

then how do i get to the original xbox dashboard? I want to set up my xbox live and play it

OK, now I get it, you didn't mention the 'I want to use Xbox live' part.

That error code indeed indicates that you need to lock your hard disk.

There are several ways to lock it, but still make sure you know what you're about to do.

There are tutorials on configmagic and xboxhdm on this site forum.

According to that page, if you have the 'Slayers disk', downloadable from 'the usual place' it should be just 1 'click'.

You might want to use 'XBconnect' or 'KAI' to play online instead of XBox Live, both services are free of charge and can be used with backup copies of games. (For XBox Live you'll need an original copy of the game)

im new to this, with those programs ill be able to play online with my chip on and not get banned?

With Live? NO! See when you load up a chip it enables a Hacked BIOS that allows unsigned software (Software not approved by M$) to be loaded. This unsigned software (Often called Homebrew) is software like XBMC and DVD2Xbox. Also that hacked BIOS loads up a 2nd dash such as EVOX or AVALAUNCH. So when you go live switch that chip off and allow it to load the M$ BIOS. As for Xlink Kai. Not sure.

to use LIVE you hafta boot from m$ dash... you should've had a backup somewhere but if not then go and download the original m$ dash, open with winrar and FTP the FIRST 2 folders in there to your root directory... if that doesnt work, dont format like me when i drank too much jack daniels lol it'll save much heartache... Also, I play on KAI modded with Trainers and any dash so the answer is yes, cheat all day on kai and xbconnect but never sign onto xbox live from a non-m$ dash! you will be banned, i reccomend setting the ip to an invalid one when playing games that automatically sign on!
